4 Attachment(s)
Here is my 99 XJ Classic from start to whats done so far. Added the vent shades first, Light bar and 2 Auxillary lights, then the 3" RC lift with 30" High AT. The last mod done to it was the clear corner lights. Next will be a home made roof rack which currently is the works.

Finally completed the welding and grinding on my roofrack. It is made out 3/16" inch square tubing measuring 60x40x6. Took a while do to limitedshop time but now all it needs is some paint. Pictures I have of it shows it on my jeep but it not mounted yet. Seeing as I live way up in Maine with all of our four seasons, would anyone have any ideas on paint? I plan on doing maybe a coat or two of primer then getting some rust-oleum black paint. I just wondering if that would hold off rust. I can't powder coat it because I don't have the stuff. any suggestions?

Well the only problem I have witnessed with rustoleum or aerosal based paint is it is very porous, tends to hold moisture. With a quality primer though you can probably get away with it. If I had to make a suggestion any type of hammerite paint would be your best because it create a hard shell

Can you get that right down at wal-mart?

hey bro rack looks pretty good. self etching primer and some rubberized undercoat works great (thats what i did on my bumpers) and as you have seen they are still holding up. i will send down the cross rails if you still want them, but dont paint your rack until you get them. you will still need to weld mounts on to your rack for the rails to mount to.
looks like you have a pretty decent mechanic doing some of your mods :brows: |

i have not mocked any new rails up, but they were pretty easy to do so i will do that after the 8.8 rearend install. To mount it all you have to do is weld a piece of 2x2 flat to each of your cross pieces so it can bolt on. i will PM you a pic if i remember tomorrow, since i am going to sell the other rack and get the rails off.
My xj should be ready for the spring fling, going back under the knife in a couple weeks. |
