Any1 know the years for direct swap of engines or the easiest alternative year I'm guessing the newer style but I red up on the 99 n up models having more sensors I know this has more than the earlier model

The block and head are basically the same from 91 to 99. The 96 and newer have a stronger bottom end. But that being said, the easiest swap would be a long block from 97 to 99 XJ .

any more pictures of the inside? looks like an awesome project. I'd check craigslist for your area, I bet you could find an engine easy. with the right engine it could be a weekend job to get it back up and running.

Quicker to replace with a used engine. Cheaper too.

It all depends on how much you trust the block. If the head was obviously the problem, then just replace the head. Just be cautious. If it got hot enough, it could've cracked a water jacket.

Either way, if you're going to rebuild it, do it right. Go ahead and freshen up the bearings and rings while it's apart

I don't think you'll be rebuilding this one.
