Post 96 xj build

Hi, my name is jon. i never properly introduced myself to this forum. I'm 18 and i just bought a 96 xj sport 5 speed as a DD. perfect running condition, minimal rust, no leaks of anykind, 3rd owner, first owner garage kept untill 09, my best friend bought it from him and sold it to me 8 months later. only 167k miles on it, which i dont think is to bad.

i plan on giveing it a 4.5 inch RC lift custom. rubricon rear leafs and im trying to get an idea for good shocks. alot of people say that RC shocks arnt that great but im going to see for myself if i like them or not before i spend the money for new ones.

if anyone wants rear AALs im putting them on craigslist soon

here are some pics:

im new to jeeps and will probably ask a million and one questions about everything and anything there is to know.

P.O had put in 4x7 sony explodes in the rear 51/4 sound bar, it sounded terrible. the speaker was sitting on the edge of the cutt out and it buzzed at low volume.

i removed the sound bar and put in 51/4 kenwoods i had from my previous jeep. while the sound bar was down i re-headlined it with diffrent color material. gana do my 10" sub box this color to so it atleast matches something.

I had the same problem with the upper control arms, I ended up just cutting them of with a sawzall. after I cut the nut off, I just tapped the bolt out the other side.

it was the opposite with mine, the nut came right off but the bolt was stuck on there got it off finaly tho, 4-5 hours later and a REALLY BFH and my foot. i ended up cutting the head off with an angle grinder and slotting the shoulder untill it was almost round and just beat it out. now the fonts done except the track bar mount relocation and i started on the T-case drop which didnt turn out as easy as it looked. the stud wont come off with a jam nut, instead they both just turn.. gata find something new in the morning.
total time: 20 hours flat
biggest waste of time: 4-5 hours, passenger side control arm(you can even see it hanging there in one of the pics)

so i broke 3 top shock bolts and the 4th one wont break or come out. with the way my hands are hurting i wish it just broke.
got one shock out and the others still in there. ran into a bigger problem, i thought i might be able to get a better angle with the tire off. tryed to take the tire off and some dumb S*** tightened the lugs with im just guessing at about 300 pounds of torque with an inpact gun. i sheared the head off the lug tool and now im stuck and have no clue what to do.

finaly broke the lugs. me n my dad drilled out the center of the lugs and studs to make em weaker 2 came out with a grinder and 1 was just beat off with a cold chisel. got the other 2 off with another X-lugtool and some 2 foot long cheater pipes. one pushed and one pulled and when they broke free a cloud of smoke about a foot high just apeared from nowhere.
so lugs are off. started workin on getting the leafs out. got both front bolts out and one back bolt. havent droped the leafs out yet but working on it.
its really S**** day outside so i took this time to spray my drum brakes black. it looks better then rust ill get around to spraying my callapers when im done with the lift.

Very nice. I also have 96 xj and am looking to do about the same lift except I will be adding it to a existing 2in lift. What tires are you planning on running when you're done?
