96 Mudder
 

My dad passed away recently and I am getting his 96 cherokee sport. It's a 4.0 6 cylinder. I wanna use it for some mudding. I have never done this before and am looking for a lot of direction. It has sat for 2-3 years without being run. But I hooked up jumper cables and it started up but I didn't run it long because I thought it would be a good idea to get the old gas out. What should I look for in decided whether to sell it or keep it and build it? I'm thinking about syphening out the gas or just disconnecting the fuel line and draining the tank and putting new gas in. I will also change the oil. Then I'll probably take it in for an inspection. I wanna get a lift kit. Either 4.5" or 6.5" and get either 31s or 33s. I also have a friend who said he could make me an eternal roll cage for a couple hundred bucks and if I got a winch he could put in on the cage. Please help lead me in the right direction!!! All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Also I will have a couple thousand to put into it but still wanna try to find things on the cheap so I can get the most for my money. Pointing me to sellers would be appreciated. I live in cedar rapids area.

I would get all the regular maintenance done first after you drain the old fuel and change the oil, Napa Gold filters and Shell Rotella-T oil are what I use.
Check the condition of your brake system as well, May need a new set of spark plugs and a valve cover gasket.
A 2 to 3 inch lift would be a whole lot less expensive and you could run 30-31" tires. Bigger lifts and tires cost alot more and are more involved,.
Check out some of the build threads and you will see what suspension modifications are necessary to install the bigger lifts and tires.
Let me for warn you these Jeeps are addicting Be Careful LoL.

Change all fluids (oil, transmission, tcase, diffs, coolant flush), do a tune-up and get the brake system checked out. then worry about lifting it.

I'll change all my fluids first then. Would it be safe to drive it a mile to my house because its at a warehouse right now and it would be easier for me if I could drive it home. I also got some sea foam that I thought would begood to use. Do you guys use it?
