95xj 2dr.winter project.

started out with a 2dr.2.5 4 speed from outside the rustbelt.minor rust bubbles here and there but otherwise pretty damn sweet.rockers are still shiny white pretty rare in this neck of the woods.pulled engine trans/transfer case.got the axles ready to come out rear leafspring bolts were a pain as expected soaked for days with PB.a little patience pays off for sure!pulled seats and rubber floor mat and low and behold the jewt backing was soaked on passenger side and floor rusty, drivers side is still nice.wire brushed floor and opened up some holes and some punky spots, mainly from center back.dash had been pretty beat up removed dash and heater box.also removed entire front wiring harness, thats quite a piece.cleaned engine compartment had to address a few rust bubbles there.then i've been scraping undercoating that's a fun job if there ever was one.was using brake clean to soften but was loosing too many brain cells in the process,so i tried a little heat that works swell warm it up and it peels off.so far have front inner/outer fender wells and frame, all the way to backend the gastank area of the floor pan.a couple more hours and i,ll have a paintable surface.have a gallon of framesaver paint coming monday.still alot of work to do before i transplant almost everything from my four door.but thats a ways down the road, just going to enjoy every minute of this project, not a big fan of winter time outdoor activities so this keeps me happy.:hammer:

bye bye undercoating

finished the last of the undercoating removal, glad that its done and glad i did it.found a bunch of hidden rust spots.mostly along seams of floor pans between spotwelds where there are gaps.now on to rust treatment and a couple coats of chassis saver satin black.decided to paint inside of rear quarter panels and doors also.everything is apart and have access to these areas, why not i say.anything to slow the red rot.have to take some more pics and if i can figure it out add a link here.

2 coats of chassis saver

after scuffing with 100 grit painted engine compartment, inner fender wells, entire bottom front to back, rear wheelwells, bottom of hood and inside fenders.all this took 1/2 gal.going to do inside rear quarters and doors, inside firewall, and the entire floor.after repairing passenger side floor.just picked up new parts jeep 95 2dr.4.0 5 speed.new rad.good rubber and a clean set of stock alloys that are going on my daughters 98 xj.drove it,home, only about 3 miles but a real scary 3 miles, hadnt been run in4 months so the etanol effect was evident but it did fire up,honestly thought it might split in half on way home banging clunking shaking hatch opened while driving.just a little cardio driving.i knew frame was bad but found that front leaf spring mounts were sticking up under rear seats and large section of frame completely missing.has good glass, doors are pretty decent,1 fender has some rot where flare mounts but trimmed they would be fine.wiring harness looks good and unbutchered no green growth, hoods good trans/transfercase,front and rear diffs sounded quiet.so im happy donor parts and some to sell, already have trans sold as soon as it hits the floor.
am reinstalling hood and fenders on the project and rolling outside for awhile have to get buddys 71 landcruiser in and do a mini resto on that.dont make money working on my own so need to make some on his to pay for mine.
