Been a while since I have updated. I finally got the thing road ready, it took a little more time than expected but you know how that goes. I have the front driveshaft out so I can run around in two wheel drive and that thing surprised me this past week when out fishing. I had to get through some hairy stuff and the 'ol jeep went right through it...even in two wheel drive. I also noticed that when I install bump stops they would be hitting on the brake line so welded some square tubing cut in half to protect the lines and give the bump stops something to bump against.

I don't have any pics of the jeep sitting on the new axle. I'll update with pics soon. It has a different stance with the 1.75 spacers I had to add to clear the brake calipers.

Got in the jeep to go to work yesterday and turned the key on went to start it and "click"...nothing. The radio and all the buzzers came on so I popped the hood wiggled the positive battery cable and boom started right up. The PO had replaced the terminal end with a universal clamp on type and it finally started to give me problems. So I talked to XJwonders and had him get me a partial set of battery cables. I'm excited!

Just ordered Master install kit and a new ring and pinion for the front along with new ball joints from ECGS. I'm hoping they are here by the end of the week. I also got my new battery cables from XJwonders and they are installed and might I say they are high quality and well worth the money! I've promised pics but the jeep is at home and I am at school so I will try to get some uploaded this week. Oh, and I also got a door plug wired in for my drivers side so I don't have to take trim pieces off every time I want to go doorless. I said this was going to be a slow build and it is just moving at a snails pace!

Pics as promised...

XJ Dana 44

Can't really tell but the rear is 1.75" wider than the front

Hopefully I can get the front axle out and over to may mechanics soon so he can setup the gears, but we will see.

On my way to town Friday night and my oil pressure gauge pegged at 80 psi. So I pulled over and it went right back to 40 psi where its supposed to be and that was the only time it did it since then. I just checked it with a mechanical gauge and it read 50 psi which is within specs. I don't know what caused the gauge to do that but maybe it will do it again and I can check it right then to better determine if the sending unit is bad or if the gauge is bad.

I insulated my roof and replace my headliner last weekend. I used a foil/bubble insulating called LowE it is used for steel or post frame buildings instead of fiberglass. So far it makes a world of difference in sound and heat. With no carpet the noise level is pretty high. My headliner is camo(will post pics tomorrow)

Yesterday after school I pulled the front end to get regeared and to replace my RMS and oil pan gasket.

WOW!! It has been forever since I last updated! since the last post I have finished the headliner, regeared and rebuilt the front axle from the hubs in, started tube doors, installed kenwood speakers in the speaker bar, replaced the RMS and oil pan gasket(haven't seen a drip under the jeep since then) and some other things I'm sure I am forgetting. I am taking the jeep to Disney, OK in 2 1/2 weeks and am supposed to get bumpstops and t case skid in the mail today. I also need to replace my transmision mount because it is 23 years old and absolutely toast. Does anyone have any suggestions on brand? I'm just looking for a good quality OEM replacement unless you guys recommend an HD mount. Thanks. Pics are coming soon.

headliner and kenwoods

I also recovered my sun visors to match

The tube doors are made from 1.5" 11 ga square tubing fashioned from a design I saw on NAXJA

I also thought some of you guys would enjoy this... This is my dad's fully restored 1970 CJ5 he bought it from a family friend who bought it new in 1970. Dad has had it for almost 15 years and is the second owner. It is mostly original and only has 36,000 original miles. It has the 225 cu. in. V6 with 3-speed manual transmission with Dana 27 front and Dana 44 rear axles.

Hah! this is a fun read!.

Question. HOW did you do the headliner. What type of fabric did you use? What kind of glue? How long did it take?.. and how did you do the visors?.. just wrap and glue? or did you have them sewn to fit?..

Also.. do you do your own welding?

Yes I do my own welding I am in the process of learning, starting on the small stuff and working my way bigger.
And the headliner I just used fleece from Hobby Lobby it is stretchy and is easy to conform to the ridges and shape of the headliner. I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive, that stuff is STICKY and once it touches its stuck! The entire project took about a day from tear down to finished. The visors I actually took an old camo long sleeve t shirt and used the sleeves and sewed them to fit there are several ways to do the visors though. Before I started the project I watched the BleepinJeep video on youtube on how to replace the headliner Matt does a really good job on explaining how to get good results. And it helps to have a buddy help place the fabric onto the board once you spray the glue on.
