Default 91 XJ Sport - Project "Mudhoney"

I picked up this new to me 91 XJ Sport yesterday for the tidy sum of $800. I think it's a bit of a bastard because it has the vacuum disconnect front axle. I understand 91 was sort of the stopping point for those and the start of the later non-disconnect axles. Has some sort of lift on it (I think 4.5") and 33x12.5.15 Super Swampers, front suspension springs are Blue in color so I'm still trying to figure out what brand it is. Also has aftermarket adjustable tubular front control arms (BONUS!!). I like the fact that it is really basic with no power locks, windows, or mirrors. Anyways, this is where I'm starting from. Let the wallet draining begin!!

Day one as purchased

That sucks about the front axle, but honestly you can either swap it or mod it to remove that feature quite easily so no biggie.

$800 for a rig that has those tires and moves/stops on it's own is a damn good deal imo, nice score!

Looks great for 800.
Are the springs grey, or bluish grey?
OME springs are more of a grey, but could look almost bluish I reckon?
OME springs will also have military style lettering on the top of them, that tell what they are.

I'll have to check. It was kind of dark underneath when I looked. They seemed more blue than grey but I'll shine a light and be sure.

Did some deep diving into some basic repairs and refurbishments with Mudhoney over the holiday weekend.
- Repaired 8-gauge wire from batery positive terminal to some sort of "common positive" post next to the battery
- Changed oil and filter (NAPA Gold 1626 and 6 qts Valvoline Maxlife 10-30)
- Replaced windshield wiper blades
- Replaced radiator cap and added coolant
- Replaced fuel filter (NAPA 3486)
- Replaced warped air filter housing assembly and air filter (seals up nicely now)
- Replaced ignition lock cylinder due to lock cylinder "wings" broken off (NAPA MPE KS6634SB)
- Replaced broken battery tray (Crown # 52449 0202) and missing battery hold-down bracket (MOPAR # 55010722)
- Replaced frayed engine to firewall ground cable with 4-gauge cable
- Replaced battery ground cable
- Attached additional ground to right fender from battery ground terminal
- Cleaned and re-tightened common ground terminal at right side of engine block
- Replaced O-rings in oil filter adapter
- Replaced 2 missing exhaust pipe flange bolts and nuts
- Tightened loose trans cooler lines

Coming soon, I will be replacing the vacuum lines that cover most of the left side of the engine compartment. Dorman makes a 2 part set that covers most of the lines.
