91 XJ Limited - SubZero Resurrection
I'm on Eielson currently, just stumbled across your post. any update to your project? I have a 98 with a 4.5 RC lift and 31 inch cooper discoverer stt's. same wheel almost, too. you seem like you know your way around a jeep. have you had any whining from your a/c compressor? i know it doesn't get used around here, but if the bearing is bad, it won't seize and destroy my serpentine belt, will it? just got back from 9 mile trail today and also had a TPS issue as well. Let me know how you're coming along!

Ok...so I started off the day with high hopes of fixing my sunroof. I've never been up inside the headliner and I was worried, but everything started off fine.
I knew from talking to the mechanic who helped me pull the sunroof relay (10+ years ago) that it was above the rear drivers side seat. But where to start?

Taking the grab handle off. T20 Torx bit will do the job.

After I had the handle out, I had to figure out how to get the trim off.

Actually figured out that I needed to start by taking the front trim piece off and work my way towards the back.

This was the trickiest part. The part that the grab handle goes through actually slides forward off of the rearmost trim piece. Maybe that will save someone else the 10 minutes of noodling it out.

Ok...so once all the trim was off I was able to peel down the headliner on the door and I started to scope stuff out with a flashlight. Finally found the 2 plugs from where the relay had been plugged in.

Enter...the brand new relay (bumped my hand when snapping pic)

And relay installed.

So before I got ahead of myself and buttoned everything back up I decided to be smart about it and try things out. And.....nothing.
Like clicky, clicky, clicky......nothing. I'm sick.

But I WILL NOT be denied!!
So I start to think about it. Is there power to the relay.....no not that I can find. So I follow the wires in the roof up to the front dash.

And down to my fuse block and I find a couple of unplugged spades hanging right in front of it. And everything is the right color.

But for the life of my I DO NOT know where I should plug these in for clean power in my fuseblock.

I am stuck.
But I decide that I can at least test the setup by jumping power straight from the battery. Although it wouldn't be permanent at least I could see if the relay works. So out come my jumper wires and a big roll of wire.

At first nothing, but then I reverse the wires and BOOYAAAH!!

I tested the vent and the open functions. It vents and closes, but when you try to open it I found that it started to bind. And I kept having to reconnect it to the battery, I don't think that it was getting enough voltage.
So not a total loss for today, oh...but I got alittle careless with my screwgun and rip.....

So if anyone has any suggestions on where I should plug those spades into my fuseblock I would be in debt to you. Otherwise I'm gonna throw it up on advanced tech.

Personally since, like you said, we hardly ever use AC up here, I'm considering converting my AC to an On-Board Air compressor as seen here.

How rough is 9Mile? I wanted to try some mild wheeling before I lift it at all.

they make add a fuse for just that purpose you choose the fuse you wanna use and remove it pop in the add a fuse it will now have two fuses on it one for the original device and a new fuse for the device you are adding most auto parts stores should have them. so do u think the wires were pulled for a reason? if you go the add a fuse route choose something like the blower fuse to install it, being that it has a 25 amp fuse in it you can be pretty sure its got larger gauge wireing, guess it goes without saying have the fan on a lower speed when operating the sunroof to account for the additional load, actually now that i think about it you probably wont even be useing the fan if the sunroof is open, perrrfect. Dont feel bad about the headliner looks like it needs to be added to the list anyways is that a wagoneer i see in the background? is that next? send it to this guy http://www.grandwagoneer.com/
heres the add a fuse:

Ok...sunroof fixed and we move onto the next thing....

It's like a jigsaw puzzle....that's this week.
I went up and arraigned pickup of my new MJ.

Someone was asking about what shape it was in, here are a few more pictures.

Definitely going to be an ALL winter project. Just found an AX15 tranny for $250, gonna have to start a build thread for 'Big Red' or maybe 'Injun Joe'.
This guy had a couple of other jeeps he's trying to get me to buy as well....

HONCHO Baby!!

Burn job, top of the motor caught fire. Still got lots of good parts.

This one is actually pretty clean. Weak motor and bad manual tranny.
This JEEP thing is a serious illness guys....I haven't felt this way since I was 15 driving my first full size Wagoneer.

Oh...and one last fix on SubZero. When I had it detailed after sitting out back after so long I told the detail chick to make sure to get the headliner. Either the headliner was weak from age or from the soda sprayed up from the cans of pepsi bursting on the floor over the winter (oops) or she was just clumsy, but I ended up a hole right above my visor.

But I'm kind of a 'tactical' patch ***** and I discovered what better place to put some of your favorite patches then on your roof? And what better way to cover a hole?

Hehe....

More updates coming up later tonight. My new Garvin Roofrack and maybe even a new build thread for InjunJoe (MJ).
