Greenberg's Black XJ Build
Finally decided to start building a thread for my jeep...hope yall like it
I bought my second XJ July 2009 after I graduated high school (first one was totaled beginning of senior year!)
Here is my xj completely stock
96,000 miles - Everything Running Great - $5,400
pros - power windows / locks & remote start
cons - from new york so pretty rusted up & slow leak rear differential

After driving it off the lot I started making upgrades
- installed JVC hd radio
- repainted all plastic bumpers on body black
- waxed and buffed jeep / deep cleaned interior
- Had a new pinion seal put in rear differential and re-oiled
Started saving up for my lift - looking to do a combination spacer/coils and shackles/leafs

Lift Skyjacker 5" Overall
I did this lift out of the garage back in late july (looking for pics from it)
It was a week and a half project...went through 2 cans of pb blaster, broke 3 bolts (2 rear upper shock mounts), lifted it up on jackstands that were resting on cinder blocks, had about 4 guys lend me a hand for arm strength
moral of the story: don't buy a jeep from new york...almost too rusty for garage work
Purchased:
front-
2 Skyjacker Nitro Shocks
2 Coil Springs (3")
2 Coil Spacer (2")
2 Rough Country Quick Disconnects
Skyjacker Steering Stabilizer
rear-
2 Skyjacker Nitro Shocks
2 New Skyjacker leaf springs (3")
2 Skyjacker Shackles
Extended Break Lines
misc-
Track Bar Relocation Bracket
Transfer Case Lowering Kit
Pictures
front-
rear-
Put 51 Series Procomp 15" wheels & 32X10.5 Tires On

Next I started working on a better sound system
I had already installed a jvc head unit
I had a 12" mtx sub and amp from my old jeep that was totaled so I pulled those and they sat in the garage until I wired and mounted them in this jeep
Then went to replace factory paper 5.25" speakers with some nice sony's from wal mart for like $40 even
Last year i bought a pair of pioneer speakers 6.5" with 2 1" tweeters...i thought i could fit these into the rear speaker mounts of my cherokee.
but once i got the sony's i decided to make a speaker box so i went to lowes and got a 1/4 sheet plywood and some felt fabric from walmart and i made this box.
I set this on top of my mtx 12" subwoofer box
It weighs enough that it doesn't move when I drive...and I can either have it face forward or flip it around and face out for a tailgate
here it is facing forward on top of my sub box in the trunk
Above the rear seat
This is my 9 speaker sound system in an xj...it sounds great
I split the wires above the rear speakers and ran one on each side down the interior sides of the car and back to the middle to hook up to the speaker box
The tweeters make a huge difference in the quality of sound

After finishing my speakers i went onto getting an ipod hook up... ran this through the inside of dash and out the glove box...then under the plastic where the console is connected and around to cupholder
with this i think i am finished with the sound in my xj
front end shot - ipod hookup in cigg tray
With sound finished i needed an exterior speaker so I got a flowmaster on it
This sounds pretty good...I still wanna put a tip on the exhaust
I went to autozone and bought a air intake tube and took an old K&N cone i had laying around the house. Combined this with a air tube i bought from lowes and built this. I attached the hose with 3 layers of rubber cement coating (has held up to this day)

I got a hiLift jack for christmas from my parents. Personally I'm not a huge roof rack fan and do a fair amount of high way driving so I doubt I'd put a tire up there. I'm pretty short on cash since I'm in college but still wanted to mount the jack on my roof so i decided to drill into my factory racks and put some wing nuts on it.
Purchased
(2) 1/2" X 4" carriage bolts
washers
lock washers
nuts
wing nuts
rubber grommets
I drilled a hole in my factory cross bars about 2 inches in on both front and back. Took lock washer and washer under the crossbar and another washer and nut above it. Then took some washer (as spacers) put a rubber grommet on next followed by the jack, another grommet, some washers, a lock washer and the wing nut on top.
It is a solid construction! doesn't vibrate or rattle or rock one bit. I threw a lock around the jack and leave it up there all the time.

Either adjust those skyjacker LCAs or buy a set of adjustable LCAs from IronMan4x4
Cause your caster is Waaay off and your front axel is sitting a good 1-2" back from where it should be.

Thanks, that's a good point..the skyjacker arms are slightly longer than stock but not adjustable so i'm gonna pick up a set of adjustable lower control arms and bump that axle forward some

buy them from the link i posted. its a small company and the guy who makes them is on this forum. they're cheaper than most but very overbuilt.

yeah i'll do that, there in my area code so maybe i can work out a shipping deal too...there stuff looks solid
what about the upper control arms? any adjustment needed there? or should stock be fine?
i'm probably gonna end up trimming my fenders once i bump it forward
