88 White XJ
Hey guys, just picked up an '88 Jeep Cherokee Laredo for $1500. 303k on the body and 78k on a rebuild engine and tranny. Just needs a tune up. Runs a little rough but I put some sea foam and new gas in it. (It's been sitting for 9 months) It runs pretty good now. The brakes don't really work, the guy said they are new brake pads and rotors, but it's been sitting for 9 months so I'm not too sure. First thing I did was replace the rear hatch shock observers, and installed a rocksford fosgate radio/cd player. This will be a SLOW build, b/c im only 15 and dont get my license till december, but hopefully it will be ready by then.
My plans: 3 or 4 inch lift (not sure on the brand yet, but prob. RC) 31x10.5 mud terrain tires not sure on the brand some sort of roof rack, either custom or buy one hella fog lights sound system(already have rocksford fosgate 300w amp and box, just need subs) Can't think of anything else. Also, is there a 3 or 4 inch lift that ISNT add-a-leafs? i want whole new leafs and i dont see anything on RC website just the 4.5 and 6.5 have full leafs.. this is the only pic I got when i got it. right now im in the process of repainting the fender flares and bottom strip. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4901255_n.jpg No A/C just needs freon |
Oh yeah...rear bumper has a pretty bad gash in it, but picking up a used one for 20 bucks tomorrow.

cool man, good luck with everything, I have those same wheels, painted black (I didn't paint them, they were like that when I bought it) they look pretty nice.

You can get the 3" lift with full packs. It's a few hundred dollars more, and is listed under "Vehicle/Lift Options" when your viewing a lift. It's probably listed on the other sizes too.

Got the fender flares and bottom strip painted with grey bumper paint. 100% better than before. Going tomorrow to get a new, well new to me, bumper from a junkyard for $20. It just has a little surface rust, but I'll take care of that. Also, getting a console cover thingy as the jeep did not come with it.
I'll post pics tomorrow, it's dark and I just got off. Noob question: Can someone link me to a 3 inch lift WITH full leaf springs? And not add-a-leafs. Thanks..I really don't know much about lifts. |

lots of spring option custom make set with multiple ply from your local junk yard

Update
Told you this would be a slow build. Well, took the jeep to the shop today and got it inspected. While it's in there im getting a few things fixed. So far they fixed the A/C and now they are trying to diagnose a problem it seems its missing pretty bad, not to sure. and its making a horrible knocking sound coming from the bottom of the jeep when u drive it but it seems after u get the rpm's up it stops not sure?
Well no lift YET but getting this one soon: http://zoneoffroad.com/product?ki=34&gr=-1#no_op I got some 31x10.5 maxxis mudders today a friend dropped off today and im supposed to pay him sometime but im debating on just giving them back cause they are worn down pretty badly and not really worth that much if you ask me got some subs also: http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/x...0819001803.jpg http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/x...0819001807.jpg 2 hifonics brutus 12's got a ported box and a 300watt rockford fosgate amp ready to go when i get it back no pics of the jeep right now but what rear axle is this? http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5736080_n.jpg |
sounds like a good start
As far as the rear axle its dana 35... as its a 88 its a Non C-clip. If you are planning on bigger tires, please seriously look at upgrading:sweatdrop: And since you have the A/C compressor, since it isnt in working order, look into coverting it into On board air. |

On the D35.. it will be fine for awhile, but these axles have been known to grenade on the street. If you check your local Junk yards, Find yourself a 8.25 or D44. They are a direct bolt in. Just make sure you find one with the same gear ratio |

ok I'll definitely look into that..
thanks man No problem.. Glad to help. Thats what we are all here for. The main reason I enforce this so much (you will see in other threads) is I had my D35 on 31's, no locker and easy on the skinny pedal, Grenade about a mile from my house. :pinch: |
