4200 swap in 86 laredo?
ok I allready posted this in the introductions but figured it belonged here twoso hi I just found this forum doing a little google searching, I have a couple offroad rigs and just want to make this jeep a fun toy to play in town and do a little offraoding nothing serious, it currently has a 2.8 with either a cracked head or blown head gasket but I hate 2.8's and I either want to put my 04 vortec 4200 straight six or I have a 02 ls1 but I would really like to put the six in it just so no one would think much of it and these motors are massive little dudes power wise mine was a 275hp 275ft lbs and I'll have a tune and free flowing exhaust so I should make 290 at least, I'm hoping for 300 but who knows....ok to my point has anyone else tried anything like this or am I going to be the first. I haven't pulled the 2.8 out yet so I can messure to see if it will even fit but I'll get there, anyway I like the forum glad I found it

your the first that i have heard of, doing the 4200 swap.....SBC V8's have been done but take ALOT of work.....the average barnyard mechanic that has a 2.8L tends to do the 3.4L Camaro V6 swap because it is basically bolt in......good luck and post lots of pics

It is bad enough putting in a SBC Chevy. But you will find more work doing this. The motor has nice numbers, but you will have to convert all the front parts including the hood to the 4.0 parts to gain the room. You better do some good measurements to check this out. If it is longer that a 4.0L, then you better go for the LS1

well I'm no master mechanic but I'm way past shade tree mechanic and I have a good friend who used to be a roomate actually and he runs lt1swap.com and does custom harness's for me and programing really cheap, I found a couple of cherokee's on youtube with v8's I found one with a 5.3 in it and thats what made me want to put one of my ls1's in it but then I found this 4200 for nothin and I loved the idea of a straight six with almost twice the horspower stock than a 4.0L H.O. I just have to get that 2.8 out and start mesuring I'll try to keep everyone updated
