I lucked out and bought a 1994 XJ for $400! Well it needs a little love turns out it has a cracked head and was leaking oil into the coolant and the owners just thought it was burning oil Eee!!! Well I am fixing all of that and it isn't that bad money or labor wise so far I am in it about $700 including purchase price of the jeep. The Remanufactured head is going to cost me about $65 and a trip to the junkyard and $140 to get machined at my local machine shop if it has any cracked valves that will be a little extra.

What I have done so far,
New high flow water pump, new radiator, new 180 degree thermostat, pulled the lifters and going with new ones, new high volume oil pump and pick up screen.

In two of the picture you can see me pointing to where the head gasket blew. And the oily gloved fingers is the oil in the water jackets and it also had two popped freeze plugs

the two popped freeze plugs may have led to the overheat that blew the gasket

I am in the process of stripping out a lot of good parts from my 97, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, sensors, thermostat, throttle body, TPS, map, crank position, air filter, fuel pump, belt, injectors, water pump, headlights etc...let me know

If you when where to find a good head before I have to go play at the junkyard would be awesome.

Yea but after shipping I would be in it more than if I got one from my junkyard and had it machined

You can see a big difference between the standard volume and the high volume oil pump!

It turns out I have several bent push rods as well do to sticking valves. We I am just going to replace them all and maybe new rocker arms as well depending on what it all cost.

I will post pics of the new push vs bent push rod when I get then new ones later today...

Well Melin engine parts is for some reason back ordered on the mr-740 rocker arms, but I am a manager of a AutoZone and I can see their inventory and it says 312 in stock???

Well I call my purchasing/buying manager for autozone and said hey what's up with Melin and this part number... He says nothing I will call and talk to them, well two hours later they are being overnighted Fedex to my store be here in the morning. It does pay to be the one selling yourself the parts :-)
