3" Rough Country!!
Hi all, despite my username, I am lifting my 93!! jeep cherokee and am looking at doing a rough country 3"-er for $250, not a bad price. So what I am wondering is if anyone has had experience with THIS lift and can tell me if its really as easy as putting in the lift? Or do other things have to happen like space the transmission? driveshaft? I know shocks, but anything else that is a addition to the KIT please let me know, thanks!!!!!
I will also take suggestions on alternative lifts like a junkyard-er or something else that you think I can do for under $250 (including shocks!) THANKS!!! -Paul- |
for 250 I take it your doing the add a leaf. I have that and I put most of it on by myself in my driveway - no impacts. I think the entire lift took me like 5 hours but my son did come home and help with the front.
Some suggestions - first be ready for the rear top shock bolts to all snap in the nutserts. You will have to take an air hammer or a big hammer and punch and knock the nuts out (they are welded in) then get some nuts to replace them. It is not fun getting the nuts on due to the crappy design. an option is to drill through the floor and go with long bolts to drop through and bolt the shocks to those. A week before start hitting every bolt you need to take loose with PB Blaster (not a substitute). Rent a spring compressor for the front springs and you can use the Jeeps jack to wedge between the body and the axle to push the axle down more to get the springs in. Only drawback to the RC lift is the shocks are rough and my experiance has been you will be replacing the bushings about every 6 months (which is a pain with the rear shock mount issue). Other then that I am happy with the lift (although I did just change my shocks out to Terraflex when I added the 1.5 Budget boost). |
id like to hear more about this drilling thru the floor for shocks

anyways, thank you all very much for your help and giving me a little more confidence in this lift troy: did the carparts lift come with front springs or just a spacer? Since we're on the topic, if I go with the 3" lift then add the 2" spacers and 2"blocks will I THEN need to do some further mods? THANKS ALL!!!:icon_lol: |
