2001 xj swap up to a 5.7 HEMI

i have a 01 xj with a hole in the side of the block at #4 cyl. so instead of spending the money on a high milage 4.0, i was looking to swap a 5.7 out of a pick up truck that has been crashed, i can use the entire power train, but the only thing that is holding me back is not being able to find a conversion kit for the electrical system. im a mopar level4 certified tech i know how much of a animal that can turn into without one, i want to keep it multi port injection and still have everything work properly without looking like some frankenstine jeep, the only thing i was able to find was motor mounts from rustys. but any input on where i can find a plug and play system would be awsome

Buy factory wire diagrams from your work assuming you work for a Mopar dealer and build a harness. Cut chop build and get it done.

I've built 40+ harnesses for jeeps, new muscle in old muscle, and..... Hondas.

making the wires connect from one end to the other doesnt worrie me, im more interested in the controller end of the stick. and at some point there is going to have to be a cross over from the 5.7engine to the remaining jeep. if its a stand alone engine controler with no communication to the cluster, ill have allot of homework to do and cutting, splicing and making new circuits. for all the effort that is going to be if no one has a offering for one ill probably start building them for sale. but im still hopeong someone has already done the homework for it

That's what I'm saying. Make the 2 work.

If I can shove a injected hemi in a 70 cuda and build a harness you should be able to make 2 match

At least its mopar and mopar, you should be able to get everything working like stock its all about time, just saying.. also is the motor trans going to be to Long? Also welcome to the fourm man!

moparnj 10-26-2012 06:53 PM

A 545rfe isn't much longer than the auto trans that's in it now. But the problem I'm worried about is going to be the computer system. Its easy to put a stand alone system in a old car because it has nothing that needs communication with the pcm. And if you don't know what I mean by that. I'm going to have to figure out how to make a NGC or SBEC pcm comunicate with the JTEC pcm and system.

They is no current conversion for ngc bus to jtec. A custom pcm would have to made for the setup. It would have to be a standalone management with the ability to control a drive by wire system. Or you could swap everything over from the truck, then you would have to deal with issues with immobilizer, bcm, gauge cluster, ect. Just a huge mess. The hemi is just a pain in the ***

Worth the pain in the @$$? No
Cool as hell? You bet!
JMHO

My jeep doesn't have an immobilizer and idk about the truck with the hemi but you can disable the older style with a factory s

Hell yes! Nice to hear from someone who isn't going to defile yet another Jeep
with a GM motor.
