2001 XJ Life Documentation
Finally have an XJ! 2001 Limited. I picked it up for $5300, may have been too much but it's over and done with and it's mine and paid for!
First weekend I just mudded around with it. Getting to know the thing and make a plan of attack. It's got a 3.5" lift with sb disconnects and the 8.25 in the rear with sye. 31" tires and as a DD this is a great setup for me. Wheeling is fun, but only one of the functions that this vehicle will be used for!
Had a little difficulty getting emissions passed, but with a little troubleshooting I figured out the culprit and it's good 'till August of 2014 so that's over and done with. This turned out to be the culprit:
I ended up just cleaning the living daylights out of the O2 sensor rather than replacing it for $100 and that fixed the readings.
Not sure where the XJ is going yet, I'm still getting used to this vehicle. The lift and tires are plenty for me for now as a grocery getter. Got 19mpg on the highway to Payson and 17mpg in town so it's doing pretty good. As far as actual build, I need a few paychecks before I can really think too far ahead.
This weekend I put the rest of a newer stereo in and I can actually hear the music. Started cleaning all the mess I made from mudding with the windows down. And replaced the crappy HID's that were in there with some Autopals, a new relay harness, and some 100/50W bright white H4's. Now I'm not over driving my lights and those brights are AWESOME! I'll post night pics sometime when I take them.
Here's the swap. The wiring was pretty poor, the housings were cracked so moisture had gotten in and I'm not a fan of the HID's without projectors anyway (and projectors are a lot of $$$ for a jeep!).
Out with the old:
In with the new:
I'll probably be asking a couple of questions as I go here. It looks like the heater was bypassed (I'm only guessing that this is what these hoses are). Is this a performance thing or a cabin comfort thing?
And the tranny cooler isn't attached to anything. It's just wedged against the front grill. More investigating on my part as I go. I found pics of how it's supposed to be so I'll get some brackets to put it in there.
And finally some pics of the Jeep as is:
And a big reason I got it:
I can finally pack stuff and lock it all up for camping. Having an open bed truck is a pain in the butt for that kind of thin.
