2001 cherokee....needs name ideas
so right now this is my dd but i am getting a new ram in about two months so i am going to start modding my jeep more. right now i am at 4.5 with 33's but i am gonna go 6.5 here soon. i am going to make new bumpers and sliders, thinking 8.8 swap but i have an 8.25 so idk. i have a roof rack, bedlined rockers, grill gaurd, rear bumper. (was a swing down but now my tire is on the roof rack. not in pic) this may start slow but should get going quick once it starts. i will be buying front and rear fender skins and making fenders of some sort....let me know what you think of her so far and give me a few suggestions please:help: lol

well today i added some shackles, i had full 4.5 inch packs and stock shackles. i went to the auto store and got 2 inch chevy lowering and with a little modifactaion to them im now at 6.5 in the rear. just need to find time to do the front cause i am leaving for rocks and vallys on Friday morning.

pics when its done

Sounds like a decent plan I wouldn't worry about upgrading your rear axle to the 8.8. If I'd do it I go 44's front and rear. I wouldn't mess with the 8.8 rear. But good luck with your build! Jeep looks good!
|
thanks! yea axles will be quite a ways off from now but just kinda throwing ideas out there. i need to make a front bumper and new rear bumper, that is probably next on the list. i start my first semester of college in about four weeks,so depending on how that goes will determine how fast the build goes.

i got them from o'rileys. yea they are 3/16's seem well built, all you need to do it grind the metal bushing down about 1/8 inch and put some some washers on the leaf side. took me about 20 mins from the time i jacked it up until i set in on the ground.
|
ok well i got the lift done the other day and i started to make a steering box brace.

Good looking jeep. Let us know how the steering brace works.
|
Very clean rig! I agree with Jeep 95 on the 8.25. If its 29spline.
|
thanks, and yea it is a 29 spline. looks alot dirtier in the pics than it is, i just washed it but have a limestone driveway so it gets all that white marks on it the first time you move it.
|
That sucks. 8.25 is one spline away from a 44. Very strong axle. I just did a swap from a D30 to a 8.25 a friend gave me. Check out my build. The only bad thing i have found so far is there is not a lot of aftermarket parts for the 8.25.
|
i have a 8.25 in my 2wd and i romp on it all the time, no problems
|
they are stronger than people give them credit for

jcr link not working but thanks for providing the jeeptubes link they got some cool stuff..

ok nothing to great but i finally got my truck last week so a started tonight to work on the jeep. i took my bushwackers off since i am making tube fenders, and i spun my leafs to get a little wheelbase stretch before i start cutting for the bigger tires/ tube fenders
here is the super extendo-wheelbase http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...ALONE/jeep.jpg |
Looks really good so far I will stay tuned with this one! I can't believe how expensive those fender skins are holy crap!
|
thanks, and yea the rears are worth it, but the fronts are only 10 ga so they are pretty thin, i wish i payed attention when i ordered the fronts or i wouldn't have got them but o well. since i am only 18 new parts come few and far in between since i cant work while im in college. so there will be alot of raw materials and making my own stuff.
|
alright i just cut out the front wheel well. now time to fab up a new one...

got the driver side all folded up http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...E/jeepcomp.jpg and mounted the armor up, then trimmed the fender that was hanging below. tomorrow i am gonna to the other side then finish welding the wheel wells back together. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h.../jeeparmor.jpg

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...129121754a.jpg http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...0129121815.jpg what should my shackle angle look like? Im not positive what is considered correct or good, and help guys? http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...129121754b.jpg i also did a little figuring with the new cross bar, drop kit http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...0129121754.jpg i will need to lengthen my lower lca's, what is the best way to do this i was gonna cut it in the middle and then bevel the edges, weld it, then sleeve the whole arm. then i will need to shorten my uppers a little bit, will this limit my flex? and then also can i just eliminate one upper control arm? |
Yikes! I don't think the shackles are supposed to angle forward! What is that thing in the bottom picture?
|
that is i control arm drop kit, fixes the angle of the control arms
|
here ya go

here is a pic of the drop kit, the middle hole there slides into the lca pocket and is bolted on, the bottom most hole is where the lca will now bolt to and the upper hole is where the upper will now bolt to

Ok, that's what I was thinking. I've only seen the tiny one that RE makes. I'll have to look into that set-up, what brand is it?
|
it was given to me i think that it is superlift. the two "arms" bolt onto where the factory trans cross member bolts to, and to the lca pockets, then that middle peice connects the two arms and acts as a new cross member. i do no have the time to do all the required things for a wheelbase stretch so i will be flipping my springs back around, i don't remember what my shackle angle was when my springs were the right way.

today i finished welding up the stiffeners, and then attached the control arm drops and the new cross member.
Attachment 384632 Attachment 384633 here is what the new angle will be on the lca's, it is much much better Attachment 384634 i hate removing the undercoating, by the time i was done my face was blacker than this and all you could see what the outline form my safety glasses Attachment 384635 tomorrow i am going to make my new longer lca's and shorten my uppers. i may start on a axle truss idk yet though we will see how long the front suspension takes. |
Where in michigan are you

lapeer country

i didn't get to the front suspension because the steel yard didn't have what i needed, but today i removed the inner fender on the other side and then mounted my fuel cell, i also figured our how to mount my new fuel pump. is there anyway to hook up a fuel gauge to the cell? the floor cut isn't quite done but you get the idea.

Attachment 384526, i will flat tow with it, i have no room for a trailer when i move away for college
|
Sweet Jeep!
You may want to look into a shackle relocation bracket to fix that shackle angle. I wouldn't even want to drive it with those angles. A good shackle angle would be about 45 degrees out the back of the jeep. I can't wait to see how the rest of this turns out. nice truck you got there too! |
thank you, yea im gonna make some relocation brackets in the next day or two

thanks! yea it is a corporate lease, and it gets alot better mileage then the xj does. i plan on buying it when the lease is up.
|
is that the 4.7 engine in it? i dont see the hemi tag so i figure it is the 4.7 . i looked into these trucks a few months ago but didnt have the balls to buy it. is your lease pretty reasonable?
|
1500? Come one if you are gonna use it as a tow rig 2500 would be much better. Good looking xj though
