I have not dropped off the face of the earth just really busy with work.
I have been slowly working on the wiring and interior so progress is being made just not at the speed I would like.:sad: Oct should slow down a bit and give me more time on the Jeep. The upside is that I have sold quite a few adapters and motor mount kits so more TDI Jeeps are under construction! |

Does anyone know what this connector is for?

Based on the location it looks like cruise control.

Thanks Photojared, toasterknight was correct, my jeep did not have cruise which is why I did not mark it.
Next time I'll mark connectors "not used", learned something new today and didn't get any older. |

Its been really busy at work so not much got done for the last few weeks.
I have set a deadline of Nov 10th to have this on the road so lets get moving! Got the TDI/Jeep engine harness finnished. It has a bit of both TDI and Jeep in it so its just a plug in harness. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5684/...07397b5b_b.jpg Next is to finish the TDI / jeep engine compartment harness which should be a lot easier. Started on modifying the shifter. When the trans was moved forward the 3" for firewall clearance it meant the shifter also moved forward and would hit the dash. I heated up and bent the lower shifter so it was straight on the top half. I'm not sure how they are on the BEWs but in Mk4 land apparently they're not reliable... just replaced it on my '03 Jetta and found that it had already been done lol. What else do you have in the harness? EG, what did you keep that's for the Jeep side? Does the shifter boot have anywhere to bolt up with the transmission forward or do you have to cut the tunnel? With myself migrating from Volkswagens to Jeeps here in the last few months, this is awesome to see. My buddy from Ontario is running a TDI in his Jetta with over 400Tq. It's insane. Good luck with it. This rebuild/restore is awesome.

The plug in the bottom left of the pic is the only Jeep plug in that harness.
Its for the Alt and A/C and I replaced the glow plug harness. I also built a stripped down Jeep engine harness that has the crank pickup, oil pressure and temp senders along with all the transmission stuff. The stock shifter hole in the body was big enough for the 3" move forward. The boot is up high enough that my bent shifter stub comes through it without too much distortion. Now if I could just find the ******* bushings off the shifter stub I could get it installed and the console mounted. Those little bushings (wandered off over the last year) are not available separately so I may have to make some. Anyone got a shifter tower off a NV3550 that they could take a picture of the bushings so I get an idea what I'm making?? |
Cool! Well, not the bushing part, lol. Is this at the very end of the cane on a ball?
Speaking of the console, how will that work? Making a new boot? Or will the bend you added pretty much bring it back so that it fits? |
Once the top shifter part is re bent the stock shifter boot should work fine.
The bushings are on little arms out the side of the ball |
