Stupid Chevy Aveo (my daily driver.)
It looks like I may have a blown head gasket and/or a warped cylinder head. Because there's been a cooling issue for months and it keeps overheating. It's been an ongoing saga. I'll type more soon.
First, I need to see about diagnosing a bad head gasket - right? I need to check cylinder pressures, I think. Engine rebuilding class was like 18 years ago...I'll do some research.
I am not looking forward to this repair. I hate this car.

So I need to pull the daily into the garage to take care of this head gasket, which means I need to pull the Jeep out. Which means I either need to bolt the driver door back on, or finish the removable hinge conversion. I think I'll just bolt it back on, for now. Then I need to hook up a battery and roll the windows up. Then push it outta the garage.
Then...
Pull my daily in there and maybe do a leakdown test or something.

Give people a chance and they’ll show you who they really are.
My XJ is still slowly being worked on.
I have photos.I will update soon.
Chevy Aveo is down again.
I’m on my bicycle full-time.
My dude has the 1993 Grand Cherokee.
A month ago, he’s like “I want $1000 for it, but you need a car, I need some money...Friends and Family discount = $700-800”
I’m like, cool, but thanks anyways, I don’t have $700 or $800.
A week later, he’s like, “we can do a buy-here-pay-here, $200 down and drive today.”
I’m like, cool, I get paid next week. Let’s do it. I’ll put $200 down, and three more payments of $200. Total $800.
“Well, Mikey, I’mma have to get $1000 for it.”
... (i know he’s a hustler. but he’s [was] my boy. he’s hustling ME now? i got two kids. i need this ****ing car.)
OK. FOUR more payments of $200. Next week, when I get paid.
NEXT WEEK: I’m ready, let’s do this.
”We’ll, Mikey, I’m gonna need more down. Like $350.”
Nope. Don’t have it. I’ll do $250 down, and two more payments of $350, each. $950 total. But now we gotta wait until I get paid again.
”ok.”
payday. Today. He comes over, 4 hours late. I switch plates, take it for a spin.
I see his hand written contract:
blah blah
$250 down on June 17th
Payment on (blank)

I’m like, hey, you got a few extra payments in your sheet there. I’m just doing $350 twice to get it over with.
”Well, Mikey, the price done went up. I got expenses incurred since the last time. My mechanic been up and down through here.”
I say nothing. I start removing my plates.
”Mikey. $1200 too much for you?”
I get the rear plate off. Yes, $1200 is too much for me. $950 is too much for me. It was supposed to be seven or eight hundred. Maybe I’ll hit the auction on Friday.
”But you don’t know nothing about those cars. This is good to go. $1200 don’t work for you?”
Front plate off. No, it doesn’t work for me. I’ll talk to you later. I went in the house.
He’s been texting me ever since. He really wants that $250. He blew it.
I still need a ****ing car.
(For the record, my wife knew he was a scheister from the moment she met him, and I’ve known him for five years. She did NOT want me buying a vehicle from him.)

So I Shattered The Hatch Window.
Ok. So so accidentally shattered the rear window. I was using a steel pipe to support the hatch.
something shifted, the hatch came down, and the pipe went right through the glass.
I removed all the loose stuff, but how do so get these bits off the edge? I tried scraping with a chisel and hammer, but that just seems to make this deadly glass powder fly everywhere.
Maybe a heat gun to soften the rubber moulding?

Mounting Driver’s Seat
So I’m reinstalling the driver’s seat.
3 out of 4 bolts/mounting points are missing.
The front crossmember is gone, and so I tried to bend a new one out of some diamond plate ally I had lying around.
[I’ll find/take a photo of it. It is crooked and too long, and I decided a solid hunk of steel would be better.]
I got this heavy-*** angle of steel from the scrap pile at work.
It’s a li’l long. I’ll cut the end off.
Here’s the piece I cut off. I’m using it to help bend other pieces.

Driver’s Seat Front Support/Crossmember
Here’s the front seat support/crossmember with holes for the seat and frame.
Here is the seat mount, and some washers I made to go under the frame. I don’t want these bolts yanking through the frame.
Here’s the extra piece I cut off. I’ll use it later for other stuff.

Stupid Jerk XJ Fired Right Up!
This Jeep is such a tough old jerk.
Dropped in the battery, fired right up.
Purrs like a kitten.
I will drive it around the block tonight, MAYBE a li’l further. I don’t trust it yet. I’ve owned it for 3 (?) years and driven it like three times.
Tomorrow is oil change, then some cheap used tires from one if the many places around here (4Tires, with install $125.)
Maybe get this old, old, old gas outta there. I gotta look that up.

Let it run for a bit today...
I let the old girl run for a bit today while I played with the taillights.
For some reason the wiring harness had been severed at the rear and then spliced back together. But only sortof back together. There’s a bunch of loose danglies, and rust/corroded wires...and so my taillights don’t work.
I do lots of 12v wiring at work (I work at an electric sign manufacturer, with LEDs.) I’ll pick up some connectors, a crimp tool and some wire at the hardware store, then reconnect this bad boy. Maybe a multipack of colored electrical tape.

Battery charged, I took it for a spin.
Battery charged, I took it for a spin.
Tired, slow, idles smooth.
taillights don’t work, so I used old-school hand signals.
If the battery holds charge overnight I’ll drive to work in the A.M. It’s only 3.5 miles. I can get done used tires and hit the hardware store on my way home.
Need To Do:
cover floor (big homes fur my feet to fall through.)
rewire taillights (But wiring stuff tomorrow)
Front tires
oil change (oil on sale at hardware store.)

Driver caliper smoking.
Yeah, baby!
I drove the XJ to work this morning.
Smells and sounds like a tractor.
Front Driver caliper is smoking. I’ll see about loosening it up at lunchtime.
