1999 XJ Classic DD build

:thumbsup:Okay.. this is the start of my build on my 1999 cherokee classic, bare with me; I'm just a garage mechanic and still learning lots.:head:

Bought it basically like you see it. 113k miles, 4.0L AW4 NP231 tcase, D30/C8.25. Rough country 4.5" lift w/ full leafs, extended brake lines, a toyota prerunner bar custom mounted, with two KC daylighters. 31x10.50 Goodyear MTRs, stock wheels, rattle-canned black. Like I bought it:

Goodbye stock airbox

Airtube and K and N on, had to plug the vaccum line with a rubber plug, loctite and a hose clamp.

All done for now! A small notice in throttle response, and I'm hoping for somewhat improved gas mileage(currently avg. 12mpg) Thanks for looking

Nice jeep and good start. I would probly hook that line back up. its actually a breather and it shouldnt plugged.

Really? In the instructions it says to plug any vaccum lines that were used with the factory airbox. hmm

Good lookin' Jeep.
And X2 on not pluggin' off that breather line. If nothing else you can get one of those small filters and install it on that line.

x3 on the breather line!

you will soon blow out a seal or two (worst case scenario) and you will ruin the pack CCV valve on the valve cover(guaranteed if you keep the front one plugged).

But it looks really clean. I like the look of charcoal/gun metal rims. with the black!

norcal_redneck 07-27-2010 01:44 PM

Okay I'll most definetly get that unplugged asap. Would it be bad to at least drive around town for the day like that?

ol"blue 07-27-2010 01:46 PM

I'd unplug it and wrap it with gauze or cloth and clamp it on. JMO

looks good x4 on the unplug...I use a autozone little VC breather that is in the ricer section...just a black little mini air filter...

ol"blue 07-27-2010 01:57 PM

That's what I recommended earlier, but he needs to unplug that line ASAP until he can get a filter on there.

Okay now, I get home from a trip around town to see powersteering fluid all over my front axle and on the ground.. the pump/resevior is leaking now?

ol"blue 07-27-2010 05:51 PM

Now that's better.

norcal_redneck 07-27-2010 06:21 PM

I have a PS fluid leak now... would that breather have ANYTHING to do with the leak? It may be a long shot, but it hasn't leaked anything until now

That wouldn't have anything to do with the leak. Unless it's leaking at the line that's close to the mounting bracket. In one of the pics it looks like it's close or even rubbing. JMO
