1999 Xj build... Don't even have my license yet
 

Well im new here and and you can tell, im only 15 soon to be 16 (about 3 months) and i have always been a in car family. My dad owned many small town car dealers around MN and me and my brother are currently building a audi with a porsche paint job, v8.... but who cares, we mean jeeps around here.

so i got a job when i was 14 at a small town pizza shop right down the road from me, and every paycheck i got went straight to the bank to save up for that car i fell in love with. so the day before school started (sept. 3) my buddy called me up and said "hey i got this jeep i don't need anymore, im going into the navy for a few years so i dont need the truck no more". so i asked him how much he wanted for it and he said well... how about 2200, but just that day i went to a dealer looking for a car cause i had 1800 out of the bank, so i offered that and he came to my house to let me look at it.

Well i really liked jeeps so of course i was intrested but i always thought they were rust buckets. but this one was damn clean for a MN 4x4. so i bought it.

Its a 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ Classic. Red, Tan interior. Np242 transfer case, auto tranny, stock as a bone beside a dyno max exhaust, k&n intake, chrome grill, and rockford speakers. Here she is.

Well than i was struck thinking. What can i do to this thing thats simple? and then i thought. WALMART haha. so i hated how dim the stock head lights were so i went there and got a pair of off road lights and ordered some clear corner blinkers of ebay.

Than i went back and i remembered that they sell c.bs so i went there and picked up a cobra c.b and wired it to a whip i got off amazon.

Than i started thinking more. Enough with these ***** mods i gotta get a lift, and started researching prices i figured out the greatly know "IRON ROCK OFF ROAD" is about 10 minutes away from my house. So i walked inside and said "Mom im gonna get a lift for the jeep" her response "Oh god (not believing me) but than a couple hours past and i called up iron rock and figured out they had exactly what i wanted in the store for me. so i went there and about 600 bucks later i walked in the door and said "Hey mom look what i got!" and she just looks at me holding the new spring and just yells "You Dumb****! where why would you waste your money on that!" but it was money well spent...

Then, a lot of blood, sweat, and a lot of curse words later, the back went in.

the front was fairly easy though, just time consuming. But the finished product was pretty good in my book. Now i just need tires.

A long time went by and a lot of saving to. But the next thing was defiantly tires. So just waiting on craigslist for something to show up. And finally something did. Some 33x12.50x15 Trail Rider Radials came up. and then i found my DREAM wheels. Some 15 in American Racing Outlaw II's.

Then my brother came down from school in Duluth, MN and instantly fell in love with the jeep, so he went out and bought this

And then i thought, wow i really like that brush guard, but ive never seen one like it before. How much? haha. So than he went back to school and wheeled it a bit and after i bugged him a bit more about it he decided to sell it to me. Then he got an offer from a guy at a gas station for double what he paid for it! so he sold that but i got the brush guard. Heres what she looks like.

Then 10th grade came and i got in a metals class. i decided, a roof rack would be sweet. so i ordered 48ft of 1 in square tube. And this is what i came up with after about 2 weeks.

Then i sprayed it down with primer and then bed liner in the schools paint booth. and ordered 4 100 watt navigator off road lights, switches, 14ga wire, relays, and connectors all off amazon. put it all together and this is what i came up with. i thought i looked pretty good for my first metals project

still in the process of wiring in the lights but its kinda hard to stay out in Minnesota's winter for more than half an hour and still feel your toes and fingers. so tell me what you guys think! thanks for looking.

I envy all you guys that have metal shops at your schools, the best my school had was a woodshop with a drafting class haha.

Tint your tail light! Well just the orange part. Imo i hate the orange reflecter.

Good pick man, I like it! gotta lose the Chrome guard though, it screams - I don't wheel my rig!.... Just saying.

Xj.guy i would tint the tails if the truck had more black on it, besides on the red it kinda blends in were you dont notice it.

Dino's 99XJ Oh belive me when i bought it from my brother off his jeep i hated the chrome, but i dont really know what to think about it on mine. Besides in minnesnowta its hard to even stand outside for more than a minute this time of year, even worse tryin to paint
