1999 XJ 4.0 Auto
A lot of good things going to be happening with my XJ very soon, within a couple weeks. So stay tuned!
A little background on the jeep. I friend of mine, that works at a car lot, called me and told me they took this jeep in on trade for cheap. Said it I was to come down to the lot that day I could pick it up for what they have it in. I made my way to the car lot with plans on flipping the jeep for some quick money. I get down there to test drive it to discover it drove awful. I find out while I am there that it was a one owner with all maintenance records recorded in the owners manual. I go ahead, make the deal and head back home. On the drive home I start to develop a soft spot for it. I get it in the garage for a quick once over to see what all it may need. Front and rear brakes (shoes, pads, rotors, and drums), plugs, wires, cap, rotors, and valve cover gasket. I manage an auto parts store so I was able to pick these up cheap the next day. I get home, do the repairs, and go for a test drive. It was then I fell in love with it. Drove so smooth and straight, auto transmission shifted flawlessly up and down, and transfer case engaged smooth. At that very moment I voled to always own this jeep or one equal to it.
When I first got it cleaned up.
First thing first, address the horrible looking wheels:
Stripped Down:
Primed:
Finished:
Next was to address the stereo. Only the passenger side speaker was working. This was due to broken wires inside the door sleeve. I installed a Pioneer screen, Alpine R 6.5 in the sound bar, and kicker 5.5 in the doors. I had multiple pictures of the repair but this is the only one I could find:
Not long after having it an older fella pulled out right in front of me, leaving me with no time to react. I only paid 800 for the jeep. The insurance company gave me 4100 and let me keep the jeep :-) Here was the damage:
It have sense been repaired. I will take current pictures tomorrow.
Items that are in the mail as we speak.
-BDS 4.5 inch LCA lift w/ SYE and custom drive shaft
-h4 headlight housing with HID kit
-Offroad bumpers with reciever in both front and rear from Nates 4x4
-Roof rack from Nates 4x4
-Stage 3 Rocker panel sliders from JCR Offroad
Once I get the lift installed I will check out my stance and clearence to figure out what wheel and tire combonation I am going to run.

Headlights installed easy with no modifications. As stated the light pattern isn't a truck projector pattern but do focus the light enough not to blind people on low beam, of course hi beam it does.
The HID bulb actually has a motor the moves the bulb in and out of the housing giving it a hi/low effect.

That's how I got my first jeep. I was in my truck got rear ended, it was totaled. 3k from insurance to buy and build a jeep!
Good luck with ur build. Great choice with BDS really looking forward to seeing how that comes out.

I have been back and fourth between powder coating and painting. Might powder coat a scrap tube and test how strong it is with a cost of powder primer before the color.

Rear is done, front is about done. My track bar mount on the "frame" looked rough so I had to swap it out for another stock one, will think about up grading it later on.
