1998 Grand Laredo... Daily Driver!
1998 Grand Laredo 4.0
This is my second Jeep brand vehicle. I just sold an 2007 Compass to get this (I pocketed 5K in the process after the loan payoff). I currenty drive a 2008 VW GLI, and my wife drove the Compass. We decide that we need a mini van in the next year so we sold the Compass while it is still worth something. This will allow us to save money and be able to make a big down payment when the time comes for child number 3. So now she will drive the VW, and I will drive the Jeep till the lease is up on the VW. Then there is time for some decisions. I bought this Jeep yesterday (08/02/10). No rust, runs good, and shifts smooth 170K miles $3400. http://i663.photobucket.com/albums/u...oped/jeep2.jpg So my goal is to get this thing to run and drive great! 08/02/10: 1. New tires 235-75-15 General AT Graber's 2. Oil Change I found out that brakes on the back are bad (rotors and pads). Need to flush the trans., CV boots have small tears, & I need four shocks. 08/03/10: 3. I just ordered my Chiltons Manual $20.71 shipped. 4. New rotors and pads for the back (doing it tonight) |

I am thinking about ordering these. I just saw that one of the rear tail lights is cracked! It is a white Laredo. What you all think? RON |

4. Bought new rotors and pads for the rear $74.12. I had a hell of a time getting the rotor off the drivers side. The first wheel took 1h 45min, and the second wheel took 15min! Now the next problem... I need battery, shocks, and cv boots. My battery died last night because I left the doors open while I did the breaks. So I jumped it last night and let it run for 20 minute. Then this morning I came out and it was dead! So on my lunch hour I am going to get a battery. I am also going to order shocks today; any suggestions? Anybody got any tips on changing the CV boots (never done it)? Where should I order CV boots from? RON "I will start posting pics soon" |

5. Bought a battery and shocks on my lunch hour. Went home and put the battery in and the thing started WAY better than it did before. Shocks were ordered and will be in on Friday (O'Reilly's). I bought the Cheapest ones they had. If I later decide to do a lift I didn't want to waste money now. I just want to be able to have a good running vehicle before I start to mod. I work for International Trucks and I get a discount at O'Reilly's so a battery and 4 shocks $134.11 - 3 year warranty on the battery and lifetime on the shocks! Still looking for tips on replacing CV boots??? RON |
I would not spend that much on tail lights. Do as previously suggested and get a used one and black them out yourself. Need some pics.

All that is left is to shampoo the seats and carpet tonight. Now on the the next "new" problem I have found. The center console lid is broken off! I plan to get that all worked out this weekend. I have been want to do some fiberglassing for awhile now. This seem like as good of time as any. This Jeep is turning out to be a real pain in the ***! Shocks in tomorrow! RON |
