1998 Daily Driver Build
Well, I started out with a white 1999 XJ which I was going to use as a trail rig and then use my 98 as a daily driver.
here's the '99 https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...51-oh-yeah.jpg it had some issues like surging, and was just running like crap. so anyway, I decided to save some money and give the white XJ back to my dad so I don't have to pay insurance on it anymore. I decided I was just going to use the '98 as my daily driver and trail rig. anyway. My old build thread for the '99 was crap. I plan on treating this completely different, not even going to post something til I either have the part, or it's done. here's the '98 as it sits now https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...er/86261-a.jpg . |
anyway, so my uncle's shop was selling this blue 1998 cherokee. the PO hit black ice and went off the road into a ditch. me and my dad were thinking of buying it and parting it out.
so we got it for $700 and it ran beautiful. when we looked to see what was wrong with it, we decided might as well fix it, and keep it. here's the day we got it https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...-we-bought.jpg Build sheet on it Sales Code Description *M5 Cloth High-Back Bucket Seats -C3 Mist Gray ADL Skid Plate Group APAS Monotone Paint ARUP SE Decor Group A20P 4.0L Engine(ERH)/4Sp Auto Trans(DGS BAUS 117 Amp Alternator BCDS 500 Amp Maintenance Free Battery BGK 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes CADP High Back Bucket Seats CBWP Highline Door Trim Panel CDBS Reclining Front Seats CFMS Rear Folding Seat CGGS Traveling Inboard Seat Belt Buckle CGWS Next Generation Front Air Bags** CKAS Carpets - Floor and Cargo Area CKNS Cargo Compartment Carpet CKTS Cargo Tie Down Loops CKXS Midgate Box Access CSA Spare Tire Cover CSRS Passenger Assist Handles CSSS Illuminated Rear Assist Handles CUFS Full Length Floor Console DGB All 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions DGSS 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission DHAP Lock-Up Torque Converter DHNS Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System DHSP Floor Mount Automatic Shift Lever DJHS 230MM Front Axle DMDP 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio DRMP Dana 35C/194MM Rear Axle DSA Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle EAAC All Engines ERH 4.0L I6 Power Tech Engine GBBS Tinted Windshield Glass GCBS Front Door Tinted Glass GEDS Tinted Rr Drs/Qtr/Liftgate Glass GFA Rear Window Defroster GNAS Rear View Day/Night Mirror GTZP Manual Remote Mirrors GVBC All Vehicles W/Power Mirrors HAAP Air Conditioning HGDS Deluxe Insulation Group JAY Instrument Cluster w/Tach JBFP Instrument Panel Black Bezel JCDS 100 MPH Primary Speedometer JHAS Var Intermittent Windshield Wipers JHBP Rear Window Wiper/Washer JJAS Cigar Lighter JJBS Dual Note Electric Horns JJJS 12V Auxiliary Power Outlet KDPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING COLOR KGPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR KRPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING COLOR KTPS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR KYPP STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR K3ZS STRIPE/BADGE/MOLDING/COLOR LAJS Headlamps On Warning Chimes LBCS Glove Box Lamp LCKS Front Dome Lamp LMAS Halogen Headlamps LPSS CHMSL Lamp MB1P Black Front Bumper MB5P Black Rear Bumper MCAS Carbon Rear Diffuser w/o Strakes MDA Front License Plate Bracket MFFP Black Grille MHAS Black Windshield Moldings MMCS Rear Qtr Solid Window Insert MMGS Belt Moldings MMKS Body Color Drip Trough Molding MNAS Black Door Handles MUKS MOPAR Chrome Bodyside Molding NAA Federal Emissions NBKS EVAP Control System NFAS 20 Gallon Fuel Tank NHBP Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler NMC Heavy Duty Engine Cooling PQ7 Gunmetal Pearl Coat QQ7S Gunmetal Pearl Coat RAAC All Radio Equipped Vehicles RALP AM/FM Radio RCBP 2 Speakers RDDP Fixed Long Mast Antenna SBAS Power Rack and Pinion Steering SCDP Luxury Steering Wheel SDB Heavy Duty Suspension SHAS Front Stabilizer Bar SHCS Front and Rear Stabilizer Bars TBB Full Size Spare Tire TBLS Inside Mounted Spare Tire TRL P225/75R15 Wrangler RT/S AT Tires TZAP Goodyear Brand Tires WJDP 15X7.0 Styled Steel Wheels WKBP Matching Spare Wheel WLYC All Steel Wheels XCYS Delete Remote Start System XEEP Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield XEFP Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield XEUP Front Suspension Skid Plate XJFS Tethered Fuel Filler Cap XWC Warranty Registration Card-Govt Bid YAAS Build To U.S. Mkt. Specifications also, found out the PO put in an aftermarket LSD. I am not sure what kind yet though, we're working on getting the paperwork for it. It works very well though! we needed a serpentine belt, fix the exhaust, new front bumper, and we had to get offset ball joints in order for it to align right. thanks to a forum member I got a front bumper and we got that put on. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...ing-bumper.jpg transferred the stereo and speakers over to the blue jeep, also got a set of subs from a friend. at some point later I want to get rid of these big ones and just get a small 10" sub in a small enclosure. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...5-subs-amp.jpg anyway, after tired of having my jeep be called a Volvo....I got some new rims and tires from another forum member. now it's starting to look like a jeep. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...w-rims-now.jpg it's been like that ever since. had a lot of fun in the snow. that LSD in the rear is awesome! https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...e-fun-snow.jpg |
right now I have a new heater core that I need to put it in to fix my heat. luckily my friend offered me the use of their heated garage since it's the middle of winter now.
I also have a set of front Tow hooks to put on as well. hopefully I will be putting those on on the 16th. or sometime soon anyway. will also be trimming that bottom lip off of the front bumper as well. |
Good luck man, I hate doing heater cores. Especially in the cold, at least you have access to a heated shop!
|
got some Black Hammered paint for the front tow hooks. will get around to painting those at some point.
|
New headlight harness will be ordered from amazon tonight once my paycheck goes through.
|
also, forgot to put this in here.
I will be getting a set of homebrew sway bar disconnects courtesy of Dukie also, getting a used set of 32" MTs to put on after I lift from Slim. gotta love the MD Cherokee Club. lots of help available from all of them. |
going to reach 225,000 miles tomorrow. I think I'm about 6 miles away.
also, headlight harness has been ordered. gotta love amazon'z free shipping = D |
I got some JCR gutter mounts, will be doing a rack sometime later.
|
well today, I got a 13" antenna for the jeep, and put that on.
here's the antenna https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...o-whatever.jpg and was bored so I went and did some urban flexing. not too bad for stock with swaybars still. can't really see how much the rear left was drooping. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...35s-little.jpg |
well, I got my dash removed, and the AC lines off in the front. Just need to get one last bolt to free the HVAC box from the firewall. and I need to get the heater hoses off as well (the ones that run into the firewall and are alongside the valve cover)
here's what the inside looks like. I did not remove the seats which I'm glad I didn't. I also didn't remove the steering wheel either. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/member...eplacement.jpg |

got the hvac box out this morning along with the heater core. this thing has been a huge PITA for me.
|
Next on the list: (before next wheeling trip)
Install front tow hooks Trim front lip off Remove rear sway bar Put on the goodyear wrangler radials that are on my other jeep (swap rims/tires) Sometime: Bedline the front bumper and rear bumper |
