Alright, thanks for that. I have looked at Grabbers before. I was going to get either AT 2's or KM2's when I first got my Jeep but I have since spent the tire money I had on repairs.

Ok, so I have a quick question about the front of my jeep. (The grill, headlights, and everything else attached to that.) What would be the easiest way to get all of that off so I can replace it? The bolts on my white jeep have been ripped out by the PO and the front right side of that entire set up is not attached at the top. I want to change that out with the parts on my red jeep since I'm going to be paining it sometime soonish. (Rattle cans OD green or desert Tan either one is going to have matte black on some parts)

My redneck friends all said it was a body lift so I just went with that.

And before you go and think I'm just a 17 year old irresponsible kid, I'm really not. My parents just don't think I'm responsible.

Changing engines won't fix anything if you don't find the reason it shut off in the first place. Granted it may be a better engine (may not be) but you will have the same problem unless you fix it beforehand.

Well, we took it to a friend who is a mechanic and he has been looking at it for the last few days and he hasn't been able to pinpoint the problem other than it being electrical. I know the computer doesn't read and I probably need a new one of those, but he doesn't think its the computer and thinks its just something else bad in the electrical system. I really have no clue though...

I had the problem of my computer not reading anything on a scanner on my gmc jimmy and it turned out being the cigarette lighter fuse was blown swapped the fuse and I could read the codes on the computer hope that helps some

Ok, I have a little update for you guys. I was bored so I went to the hardware store and got some krylon rattle cans. Taped off the hood of the parts jeep to figure out which color I liked the most for my jeep, forgot to sand before painting, and the paint looks like ****. But anway, from my fail attempt at this, I have eliminated black completely (well, other than some trim and badges) and I can't decide between tan or OD green. But I see the parts jeep everyday and I'll just wait and see which one grows on me the most.
Also, Fake Snake is still in the shop... Gotta talk to the mechanic to get him to work faster.
Ohh well, Jeep on friends.

I ended up getting pretty bored today and decided to change the bad tire off the parts jeep so I could have something to just drive around the lake instead of my fourwheeler (Needs a clutch... But thats another project)
And you gotta love the 6 and some change foot chunk of metal pipe I used as a breaker bar

Ohh, and I use those first two things religiously.

I have a few questions for everyone on CF.

1-How hard would it be to do a full drive train swap from my parts jeep to the white jeep?

2-What tools would I need for a swap? (I know jack stands and a floor jack but any special tools I would need?)

3-Is there anything I would need to know prior to doing a full swap?

I'm going to go look at all the write ups I can about this.

Another question, would the engine out of the parts jeep bolt into a '86?

I had a 88 with. 4.0 blown and had a free 86 2.8 bolted right up don't see why it couldn't go the other way jus make sure you have the computer and label everything ! Sit em Side by side if you have to to make sure every thing is right.

Well, I have put a lot of thought in it today and I think I'm going to go look at that '86 and see if its worth the money and just make it my DD and maybe make my '96 more of a trail vehicle.

Today is a sad day CF, today "Fake snake" passed... Tomorrow, its going to be sold for scrap. I will be looking for another XJ, likely a '99 or '00.

i would look for one in better shape than the 96 you bought. you might have to pay more for it, but you will save headaches and more importantly money in the long run. then you can spend money on upgrades instead of repairs. i would look for one thats completely stock never been lifted or anything that way you know it was never been driven to hell and back.

dude you move way too fast, im sure your parents are probably hassleing you to get rid of it but its not unheard of for those motors to go way past 400,000 miles you should of really just stuck to getting it going than worry bout the rest later. as far as the scrap yard goes you could likely sold parts off of it and at the very least gotten youre money back and probably made a profit. slow down on youre next project tackle one goal at a time, like make it safe first(brakes, lights etc) than running condition, than looks and so on. take youre time. Maybe on the next project make a list and figure out the order you wanna do it in and stick to it, anyways sorry im rambling ive been up for about 30 hours good luck.

id like to add ,after reading youre post again i see you didnt get much help from the guys here on the forum on what to check to get it running, let me suggest that next time when you have motor problems you start a new post that states the problem in the title so the gurus(certainly not me) see the title and are more likely to read youre post and offer you help. the fake snake thing just probably came across as another build thread. it didnt indicate you were having issues. hope this helps you in the future, again good luck.....ken
