I haven't been on CF for long, but I have fallen in love with xj's. So, being 17, I searched and searched craigslist to find one at a decent price. And, after a month or two of searching all over Florida for one, I found one. He wanted $1000 for it, but he changed the tires to BFG AT's and reduced it to $750. We gave him a $700 cash offer and he took it. I drove it an hour home, it ran great. Slight vibration in the front, but I'm pretty sure that is the BFG ATs because the front left is much more worn than the rest of the tires. But yea, $700 for a jeep that ran well, but is definitely a fixer-upper. So yea, its my newest project.
Cracked windshield, no rear-view or left side view mirror. The guy says it has a 2007 wrangler T-case that he "beefed up." All I know is its inverted (2 high on bottom 4 low on top) and its a pain in the *** to switch between 2 and 4.

The first thing on my list is to get the windshield fixed, and then buy a parts jeep.

Ok, today I took the time to get under the jeep and look around. I noticed my leaf springs are completely flat. I have seen some of you guys fix that on here before, but I was wondering what the cheapest/easiest way to fix that is. Should I just wait to see if the parts jeep has good leaves, or should i make a bastard pack?

Turns out the transmission is going bad, so is the engine. It has a huge oil leak, and a huge transmission fluid leak. This may become the parts jeep now.

North Central. If you know where Keystone Heights is, that's us. Bought it from a guy in Ocala though.

Good luck! Sucks you just bought it.. how's the body ? any rust?? maybe like you said buy and donor vehicle and swap stuff over

I'm curious. Climb under there and see what the tag on the T-Case says. It should say either NP241J or NP241OR.

Yea, we are getting the donor today. There is some rust on the roof. Not much other than that. But im ripping the carpet out sometime soon so I can look, patch, and bedline it.

Alright, I know I have a leak on one of the seals on the transmission. How would I find out where the leak actually is?

Alright, thanks. My mom works for some people that have a full lift, so I'm going to go over there with the jeep and get it up on the lift and then I'll pressure wash it off and find the leak. Any ideas for fixes?

:brickwall:Well... I was just moving it from where I was rinsing off degreaser, (Wasn't going to do it but my dad was anal about me spraying it with degreaser) and I'm pulling forward, go a little too far so I switched to reverse, and when I pressed the gas, it didn't move, so I wiggled the selector and it went into reverse so I pulled it back and then I hear BANG and then it stops moving. I think I might have ****ed my transmission.:brickwall::hang:

Well, I got my parts jeep Thursday but haven't taken the time to post the pictures until now. Its got 160k miles but is rusted all to hell. Also, it turns out it wasn't the transmission that died on me. My transfer case wasn't locking into any position. But I finally messed with it enough for it to get back to working order. And the glass guy came by and I have a new windshield and rear view mirror. I took the side view off the red jeep and put it on the white jeep. I started ripping the carpet out of the white jeep but ended up going to my schools football game last night so I didn't finish. So I have half of the carpet left. And in removing the carpet and seats and cleaning the jeep out I have found a total of 9.50 just in quarters.
The red jeep also has a much quieter exhaust because it actually has a full exhaust. How hard would it be to put the red jeeps exhaust on the white jeep? I think the white jeep is too loud.
Then this morning when I went to move the white jeep it wouldn't start and I checked the battery terminals and they were fine so I checked the water level in the battery and it was almost empty. So I added water and I'm going to borrow a charger later to see if I can get the battery charged. But other than that, the jeep is drive-able. Just needs new tires...
So that leads to my next question, what kind of tires should I get for DD use but also I live on a mostly dried up lake and I drive down there a lot so I need some tires that would handle themselves well on the lakebed. I was just thinking about getting one new bfg AT because one is bald and leaks through a plug. I can't fill that tire above 20 lbs. Would that be a good idea or what?
