nice looks good so far!
to make it a truck i chopped off the top of the rear hatch and just scooted it up. cut out a piece of sheetmetal to fit around wheel wells and under window. then i just got strips of sheetmetal and screwed it into the sides and roof to hold it on...kinda ghetto but it looks aaaaight. good luck!

Default How I stiffened my body

Hey man Im always a fan of the back-off guys with 2 door Xjs. You may have seen this before but this is how i did my old Xj 2 door to re stiffen the body with no roof

I integrated as much tubing and material as possible and centered the sheet metal on it so that it could be stitch welded.

anywhere I cut sheet metal straight off I capped. welded and then attatched to the structure.

I fully welded the rockers to the door seams and the pinch seam to beef up that flexy mess.

weld every structural part fully to the sheet metal

The key with re structuring an XJ is the more surface area you can grab with welds or rivets etc the tougher it will be.

Im looking forward to see how yours comes out. Good luck keep us posted man!

There's a reason he now either works for or owns(I think he is the owner) of IronMan4x4 and builds Jeep parts

Thanks man, I actually sold that XJ to start Ironman. I put my heart and soul into that. I used a bikini top and it worked great. Not much of a winter vehicle. Look up Ibuildbigtoys on photobucket and you can see a lot more pics of it. If you want to keep the top I would suggest modding in a YJ front windsheild into the back. It is steel and easy to work with.

and your welcome ironman. haven't seen anyone do that yet. you should make that into a kit to sell on your site. it would work great as a skid plate/trans drop kit. i'd buy it. oh and on the bottom right view what size channel did you use if thats what it is.

Well here's new pics

this is it with a 3.5" front lift and a 6.5" rear lift. Will finish later. Twisted wrong way while installing leafs and tweaked my back.

Here's the new longer driveline. Need SYE kit really bad so anyone that has one lying around or know where to get one dirt cheap or junkyard stuff that'll work.

It lifted my rear closer to 8" though anyone know why?

The rockers and parts for the bracing were made on a press brake. sadly i wont be able to repeat them.
Id like to be able to. I dont have access to that equipment any more. I just scored another 2 door 5 speed from a buddy though so I will be making some more parts along the lines of what you see.
