I know for a fact the JY or as it is cleverly called Pull-A-Part provides warranties on most major stuff like the trans. Also checking the ATF is a good idea but I just figured there was another way. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback so far.

Default This all the parts!??

------^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^oh.....and AGREED^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

""Major parts I have to have:
4WD auto transmission and transfer case
axle assembly... definitely keep rear diff but replace front
driveshaft
4-wheel drive shifter""

I'm going to start my search for parts and slowly collect them till I acquire all needed to perform the swap......just wanted to make sure there are no other parts that anyone can think of that will be needed for the swap.

Does anyone know about the light in the dash the will light up when the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive??

You dont need the same year, i used an 88 trans and transfer when i converted my 94 to 4wd 10 years ago. But for our vintage Jeeps we should stick to 96 and under.. there was a wiring harness plug change later..

Theres a few more things to swap but it's minor..[/QUOTE]

is there a way to make an "earlier" harness plug on the trans work with a "later" harness plug in the jeep? ive found a parts 89 4x4 xj for 400$ to convert my 2000 2wd xj with. also, can you elaborate on the few more "minor" things you speak of? will i run into any problems doing my swap with the big year difference? im going to pick up the parts jeep in 2 days...
thanks
