Default 1992 Comanche- (56K WARNING)

(56K WARNING)- I take a lot of pictures, so if you have a slow internet connection- this is your fair warning.

Add me on facebok if you got one: http://www.facebook.com/Zack.Houck

Cherokeeforum originally got me into Jeeps. So I figured it was about to make a build thread on here as well. The First few posts of this will be just coping over my thread from ComancheClub. I left for school on the 21st of August and I started the 26th so my build thread will slow way down. I can't believe I got all of that done in one summer. But the future build plan is as follow, so here goes nothing round two:

I was thinking about going to get a 8.8 with limited slip, 4.10s the whole deal, and a D30 up front to match. But now Im thinking baout just skipping the middle man and going full widths. Do it once and do it right, right? The lift will either be SOA or 4.5 hells creek SUA, LCOG style. Then it will be armor rock sliders- I want a set that will go from the front finder all the way down to the rear tire, under belly protection and bumpers front and rear. My plan is to take it out to Moab here in 2/3 years, but I also still need to be able to DD the 4/5 hour highway drive to school from my house and keep it simple enough to DD around town.

Still left to do:

-Get new brakes
-Fix/address SUPER slow windshield wiper motor
-Fix parking brake lever (flies all the way up next to the parking break realse, covering the lever to pop the hood)

Already done:

-retorque wheel spacers (again before I leave for school)
-mount tool boxes with locks
-Fix horn
- Fix turn signals and brake lights
-install 98+ antenna mount with new antenna and cables
-Weld in the 2x4x3/8 square stock for rockers
-Change front and rear diff fluid
-Change tcase fluid
-Figure out why my belt squeels like a **** (like its not moving) (alternator was seized up)
-Mild motor rebuild (for new head gasket)
-Change trans fluid
-Swap radio's (gotta have that HD radio!)
-Change out oil pressure sender
-Change out both temp readers
-Recover the headliner
-Swap in H4 headlights
-Install new shocks all around
-Install new steering stablizer
-Install new bed
-Install 97+ finders
-Install 97+ header panel
-Install 97+ mirrors
- 2" hubcentric wheel spacers
-New lugs all around
- 2" lift spacers to level out the front some
-Bondo work (needs more- probably next summer)

March 15, 2013

I picked up a 1992 Comanche. It has the 4.0 HO, AX-15, 30/35, 4wd, AC, PB, PS, and after market head unit. As far as I can tell, the truck has generally been untouched, besides the PO spray painting the lower 1/4 and putting silicone around the holes in the floor board and gluing aluminum trays to it. She has just under 185K miles on her.

She needs the rust fixed and needs a head gasket other than that she seems to be in good shape.

I decided to pull off the flares and see how bad the rust really is and I pulled up the carpet as well. And I was some what happy with the results..

next step is to fix the floor pans, bed sides and get JY finders for the front.

My guess is that it needs adjusting?

I also own a Cherokee that built my self, and I got two years ago. My parents paid for it as 'my' first car, so they own half of so I don't know right now where its going to go. The plan is to get the body on the 'Manche rust free and soild. By May I will know if I'm selling the Cherokee/doing the 98+ swap/or giving it to my youngest brother.

Here the link to build thread on CF:

All said and done this only took me 2 or so hours
& screw my pervious owners...

Look at that prettiness!

So I got it all back together and it ran pretty good actually. I thought. And sounds better than with the stock headers. I can see why people get nice headers, this one was a 200 buck one from autozone and man does it sound better than factory! But my exhaust still is not loud enough and doesnt popcor need cat back now...haha

BUT I have some issues...

Found a little water leak while flushing the engine, tstat leaks (not a biggy just a matter of getting a new one)
Temp doesn't raise over 100 (I'm thinking temp sensor- has new tstat)
Oil pressure is good at 45/50 at idle but then randomly flips around and then reads over 80

And now it has a loud lifter tick.

Story. Of. My. Life.

here's a video of it:

Fixed my floor plans, sealed them and then bondo'ed em to steal them even more. Then, bed liner. Cut out the rusted rockers, got some stout @$$ stuff to put in its place! And picked up some paint guns on sale for 20 bucks.

Well I will just like the pictures speak for themselves..

Changed the trans fluid out today and it took all of maybe 15 minutes...the longest part of it was letting all of the old fluid drain out. It drives so much better!

Recovering the headliner and visors was super easy, just follow this write up for everything.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f46/4...ehicle-821160/
Cost me 30 bucks and about 2 hours to do everything from taking it out and cleaning it to reinstal

Last peice to the puzzle

Well I feel this project is never ending and Ive not got a chance to take it anywhere!

Well I broke a shock mount and I fixed it by drilling and tapping the mount.

And then I broke a door hinge..

All fixed

Hopefully I can have all of this crap done by this weekend because it is wearing on me and I want it all done.

Little bit of soldering and wiring for the 97+ turn signles tomorrow and she will be done with paint!
Then I need to bedliner under the drop in liner and mount my saddle boxes or buy a tool box.

Stupid alternator locked up yesterday, it was my first time doing one. It was too bad, got it all done and took the truck out for a test run. All things being equal Im glad it did it here and not in gravel parking lot out in the middle of no where

I just need to do a little wiring for new header panel. What Ive going on right now doesnt work too well.

Lol my jank homebrew antina mount until I can get a 98+ one.

Well this is what happens when previous owner of your new tailgate switches the tailgate's hinges, rounds out the bolts and then you snap one off.

So when you get it all fixed you celebrate..go hit some ***** and have a beer with the old man. lol

Welded in the pass side rocker today, a little bondo and that side will be done. Changed the tcase and diffs fluid I don't think it did that much but it feels like it drives smoother and damn was that fluid nasty. uke: Sadly I didnt get any pictures of my diffs as my hands were all oily.

August 12 2013

Took the Jeep out on a two hour drive to salt fork for a little camping and skeet shooting.

My Copilot, poor little guy fell asleep 16 miles into the trip lol

And then he wanted to snuggle..in 85 degree weather with no AC lol

Hehehe

Haha so we forget stuff to start our fires with so we had to use the clay's boxes...if anyone wonders 288 clays fit on the passenger side floor lol that we all shot before 9 am

Saw these little babies at Walmart and they would not leave my truck alone

And I saw this on the way home

All and all it was a good weekend, and thankfully the truck had no mechanical issues. Except for the fact that I lost my brake lights, my dash lights and my turn signals.

August 13 2013

Got my stupid turn signals, brake lights and dash lights to work

Painted my dash too, this is my before

Here is the after shot for the dash, I used "hammered black" which has a little bit of 'texture' and I thought it matched good with fake leather print on the plastic..and IMO they do go well together.

I got the locks out on and both saddle boxes put on as well. I personally like saddle boxes for these small trucks because you don't loose that much useable space, where as with a normal tool box you can be down to almost 4' of usable space.

True story, this is how I put my rear shock back on

Lol this dog is the best dog we've ever had..I plan on getting myself a boxer lab once I get my own apartment. He just likes to chill while I'm working haha He plays with that rock and then jumps into my cab and falls asleep hahaha
