Those tiers and wheel combo look great! Your running 35" right?
|
It looks like you have clearance for normal driving but I would defiantly be concerned if you ever flex it to see what space you have and not rub.

Those are 285/70r17. Measure out close to a 33 and taller than some tires rated 33s.
You are correct, right now though I’m not driving it till I do the sye. It will need some trimming for daily driving, but nothing major. After I do the gear, which will be a while, I’ll do some fiberglass fenders https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...266c850736.jpg |

The size of those tires just look like 35" that is nice!!! I'm looking forward to hearing about your first outing with it once you get the SYE and driveshaft installed. I'm sure your just as anxious! Nicely done :)
|
I did the front end alignment and took it out for a short spin. Drives good pleased with that and the ride is nice. I’m sure it will change some as It breaks in. Right now I have a Iron v8 sitting in the back to help break in the rear springs. That extra weight has the xj just a touch high in the back. About 3/4”

You got the driveshaft in with SYE already or just taking it out the way it is for that short spin?

Oh okay cool glad you had a chance to drive it around I really like the way it looks!
|
Thanks !
The caster is off as in not enough for driving at speed. The adjustable upper ca as at their shortest length. Look at what I can do to fix it. May try the offset ball joints? |
Checked the castor bolts and I have room to adjust some. Right now at about 4degrees would like 6.
Got the sye kit in from Rubicon Express. It’s expensive but very complete even down to the drill bit and tap. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...5f95ce4f4b.jpg |
The shackle angle sucks in this xj and that with 350lbs if Sbc in the truck. I needed to fix that issue just for the sake of the ride. I’ve looked at all the shackle relocation kits and even slider boxes. I really do not need or want anymore lift and wouldn’t miss loosing a little. Right now it’s even. After looking at everything and considering the budget I decided to just build some no lift shackle relocation brackets. I really believe anyone who can cut and weld steel could easily build a set. I have 15$ in the steel and it will be mounted using 5 mount bolts in three different places and should be plenty strong.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...dba9df226.jpeg This is what a shackle relocation bracket looks like in the raw :) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...97e763d18.jpeg This is the basic idea. Weld on each side will make it stronger than a break. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...20edaae63.jpeg Shackle angle, while not the worst is this bad with 350lbs in the cargo area. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...23f2c058d.jpeg The shackle is making contact in this bolt when compressed. |
Got a part in prettty stoked. Not to just get some time to do the sye.

Shackle angle
My shackle angle is the same on a 4" lift. Rough as hell. I would like to do the same. Let us know how it comes out.
Thanks, MH |
Did the rubicon express sye on the 242 t-case and installed new driveshafts on both ends. Adams Driveshaft hooked me up two shafts for $470 shipped. Extreme duty with 7.5” slip. Life is good. Waiting on the jcr nut strips and then i’ll Install the homemade shackle hangers. https://photos.smugmug.com/Cars/Xj-1...IMG_3866-L.jpg

Man that is solid, badass! I'm on IRO 4" long arm and my shackle angle is about the same. Definitely a little bumpy back there.

I have vibs with this set up. Have degree shims on order. With the stock shaft there was no vibration, but the U joints were binding with any axle droop.
