Today since it's cooler outside (we had a storm last night), I installed a NEW IAC valve because it's still getting bad fuel mileage. Even though I installed a MAP sensor and that helped it run better, I noticed the IAC valve allows the motor to run like it has more air and fuel mixing. I also installed a new gauge cluster (not new because it has 171k on it) but since I had the bezel off, I might as well. It's nice to have rpms, oil pressure and battery. Now I just need to put in a tank of gas and see how far it goes.
Its been a while since I have done anything to my Jeep. It's summer and I don't much feel like being outdoors in this heat, I even let my tags expire. I had to change back to my old cluster since the one I put in some of the gauges did not work. I also figured out the wiring for the hi/lo selector on the a/c, a friend/mechanic helped. But when I plugged them all in and turned it on with the selector choosing a/c the blower didn't seem like it wanted to move. I replaced the blower and heater condenser coil back in May or June. It does not matter what selection I have it on, no air comes out. Any ideas?
The next thing I want to do is replace my rockers with the 2x6 rockers to weld in. Its getting ready to cool off and I dont want to miss out on any offroading action.
Sorry for the delay Brent T, I am located in Gilbert. How about you? I am always looking for another person to go wheeling with.
I'm out in Glendale near Westgate. Generally I run trails at Table Mesa or Florence Jct., but only go a few times a year it seems. Jeep is torn down right now while I finish my WJ steering & brake swap.
Yesterday I bought a brand new set of 4.56 gears for my D30 and 8.25. I am currently running lunch box lockers. I have considered buying an actuated locker but my powertrax work just fine. Has anyone had any issues with this type of locker and 4.56 gears? Is it ok to run this configuration? Next I want to do the WJ upgrade for the d30.
You'll be fine using your lunchbox lockers and the 4.56s... You stated you have stock gears... You might need a different carrier for the Dana 30 to get those 4.56s in there but you can still use your locker...

If I need a different carrier, where would I source one? Is it a new item or are there d30's out there from different year Jeeps or other I can use or look for?
Which dana 30 do you have ?? High or low pinion ? The dana 30 carrier breakdown goes 3.54 gearing and down.. The one you want goes from 3.73 gearing and up... You could possibly find a boneyard rear with 4.10s to use but with new carriers starting around $70.00 it might not be worth the hassle..
And I've said this before ... RC has come a long way from the days of cheap parts... I've got them on my jeep build and plan on getting some miles on the parts.. I've had this truck with an RC lift kit, step bars, and cat back exhaust, right from the dealership from day 1 with all the factory warranties in place..Even gave me an RC programmer for different size tires for future use...They wouldn't offer this if they thought there was going to be trouble.. Not only that they install RC on newer jeeps and can't keep up with demand.. I've got over 20,000 miles with absolutely no issues ..

Mine is HP and out of a 96 so not sure on gears. I just looked on wiki and it says mine are either 3:55 or 3:73, I guess I could crawl under the Jeep and look at the tag.
My family and I joined some friends of ours whose daughter is friends with our daughter, so it was a great weekend. We did some trails I am familiar with but there's not many pictures. This first one shows an XJ that was second and driven by a 14 year old girl, my daughter riding shotgun and a friend in the back. We all did this first obstacle and the JK did it best as he was first and had 37's. Both XJ's had only 33's and we similar to each other except my rock slides weren't on since I recently did stiffeners. After the 4 days of rock crawling, I finished without any extra dents but my drivers side taillight is busted. First obstacle and we all cleared it.
The rest of our day was great. I went around 1 obstacle which is the one in this next picture. This wrangler didn't even make it up. It was way undercut, he was winched up with the help of the other XJ his daughter was driving.
Notice the other 2 XJ's, mine is one the right.
At the very end of this trail, the other XJ broke a right front axle and then the rear drive shaft. We managed to fix the drive shaft and had to use a strap to haul that one home. It was done, but we went into town to find a new yoke. Turns out the spline count was different, so we left it on the trailer.
Two days later we went out to Payette Draw and there wasn't anyone else there. About halfway through I got a front right flat. We changed that out with a pretty old spare. On the way out to the trail, I followed the wrangler. Dusty the whole way and since my a/c wasn't working, I couldn't roll up the windows. The wrangler friend asked if I wanted to lead and so I took off. Up and down a dusty wash board, forest road I was trying to make good time. This is where I was starting to have problems. I was noticing that my gears were slipping on my automatic and eventually I couldn't move an inch. It wouldn't even work in reverse. So I waited for my friends and they towed me back to the cabin that I could see from my new parking spot. What would cause a tranny to not work? The next morning I got in it and found that it had gears but since I had a front flat tire again, I couldn't really test it. What could it be?
My new parking spot.
Turns out when we got back to the cabin, my old spare came apart. I guess sitting in the sun in the back of my XJ doesn't help it too much. I kept it on the trailer and we will return this weekend to fix the problems and do some work on the cabin.
I have been kicking around the idea of going up to 35's from my 33's. Can you store a 35 in the OEM spot the spare once was? I was able to do it with my 33, but has anyone else been able to do the same with a 35?
