Wilmington. Hard to find any good spots around here so we spend a lot of time on un-posted power lines.

Head west 30 miles on 74 to Lake Waccamaw and try out the Green Swamp! The access road is right beside the entrance to the state park or you can go in by Bolton. Lot's of mud holes but also has some nice trail riding :) May want to wait till the end of deer season though. Clubs rule the land during that time and they can be fussy about the x-tra traffic.:boxing:

Do carry a friend! Trust me it's a huge piece of land and walking out 12 miles cold and wet in the middle of the night after sinking your jeep past the hood in mud is no fun!!

Thanks for the tip. I have been eyeballing it on google earth but I didn't see any roads going into it. Just a buncha hippie **** on the internet about walking around in there and looking at plants.

Usually you gotta get ahold of the power company to ride on the powerlines. At least that was the case with our new Grant in Aid ORV trail in MN. We called the power and asked, and their only concern is that we stay away from the power poles. Didn't care about anything else. Now this is a perfectly legal, state funded trail, dont know what they think about just Jo Blo calling them and asking if he can run his Jeep down there powerline..

I work for a power transmission company in KY and with permission, you can hunt on the property, but you can't use it to wheel. Its a fine line if you ask me, but I guess hunting is only in certain seasons. I'm not aware of anyone that has been caught though, but I wouldn't want to be "the guy".

Also, its been said already, most of these are over private land. I honestly don't think its fair for people to use powerline easements for wheeling even with permission because the owner has to keep it open, but its pretty difficult to stop a big 4x4 from coming through by any other means.

In PA if you are caught on the powerlines it can bring up to a $500 fine. More if your on state game land. So do not do it in PA.

I can answer that one. Clearly, without permission, no.

As has been stated several time, easements are private property. Every owner is different obviously, but my honest opinion is its pretty ballsy to assume its ok in general.

In NC it's legal unless otherwise posted.... He's in NC. Of course, the land owner can verbally tell you no or post the property their self if they object and then it becomes illegal. I'd agree it's best to ask first if you can find out who owns the land though! It's only polite....

§ 14-134.2. If any person, without permission, shall ride, drive or operate a minibike, motorbike, motorcycle, jeep, dune buggy, automobile, truck or any other motor vehicle, other than a motorized all terrain vehicle as defined in G.S. 14-159.3, upon a utility easement upon which the owner or holder of the easement or agent of the owner or holder of the easement has posted on the easement a "no trespassing" sign or has otherwise given oral or written notice to the person not to so ride, drive or operate such a vehicle upon the said easement, he shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor, provided, however, neither the owner of the property nor the holder NC General Statutes - Chapter 14 Article 22 4 of the easement or their agents, employees, guests, invitees or permittees shall be guilty of a violation under this section.

Leave it to legalese! I read that completely differently then you I guess. I take that as if a person rides on a powerline easement and its not posted specifically that you can't, that person is ONLY guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. If it is posted, then they are guilty of another penalty.
