What Weight Motor oil to Use in VA Beach Area?

This isnt my 1st thread in the mid atlantic as ive made the 1,000 mile round trip to the VA Beach area in my XJ from NY a few months ago. I will soon introduce myself & most definitely be looking to join some of the clubs. My quick question since my cars due for an oil change is should I use a heavier oil with the amount of heat down there in both my XJ & my car? Thanks!!

What oil and filter are you using currently?

My 98 XJ has 10w-30 full synthetic Royal Purple & filter, but for my 02 Malibu I got the cheapest 10w-40 cause shes got 185,000 on the clock.

Im guessing the Royal Purple will handle any temps, but its due soon & I may use 10w-40.

So what weight do u guys run in the high heat climate of VA??

I run cheep wallyworld 10W40 and a Fram or Wix filter in my 99 XJ and change it every 3,000 miles(has been this way for most of its life). 255,000 miles on the original engine. it runs quiet and well.

I run the same oil in my 87 YJ that has a 92 4.0 in it with 130,000 miles. It's has a lifter tick for the first 10 seconds of running. Only had this engine for 2 years.

My wife's 2013 Compass gets Wolfshead 5w20 full synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. I expect long life from that engine.

Run the manufacturers recommended weight oil as listed in the owners manual. standard oil or synthetic, change it every 3,000 miles, and use a good filter. Virginia temperatures are not that much different from New York to require changing oil viscosity.
