That moment when....
 

So I had the pleasure of changing my rear drivershaft ujoint today. Well it was just a routine fix I could hear it rattling back there just started about 2 weeks ago, now if I remember correctly I had changed this ujoint not but 2 yrs ago and rarely drove it except back and forth to work 8 miles a day. Until I moved to woodbridge which still isn't more then 90 miles from where I lived.

Now this if you've ever done one which most ppl on these forums have(atleast I hope they have) is a pretty straight forward simply process. That is unless you find out your drive shaft is cracking and the yokes are slightly bent. Now most ppl would be upset with this. Me, naw now I have a reason to upgrade lol. So now I am in the process of debating what to do replace with a jy part or do I go with a setup with sye and an extended driveshaft.

Now I only have 3 in of lift atm, an sye if required for anything above 3.5 on the xj's for the most part.So really I am just looking for ideas, I don't mind if this becomes a strictly offroad jeep as I have 5 others cars I can drive if need be. With all the being said. Let me know your thoughts ideas things I may have overlooked.

I run a SYE on all of my XJ's, even the stockers. I hate the slip yoke crap. I run the AA HD SYE and front shafts since all of my XJ's are AW4/NP 231/8.25. If yours is a 5spd or you have a D-35 you will not be able to use a front shaft in the rear. I'm running a stock front shaft in the rear of my trail rig with 5.5" of lift, so stock to around 6" will work with the stock front shaft and the AA SYE.

For me it would depend on finances. A stock used d/s is cheap add to new u-joints.. you are at 50-60 bucks. To do an SYE you need a kit... say 200, 2qts atf, some silicone, and a new rear driveshaft. That is provided that you have a good set of snap rin pliers. ANother 20-25 bucks. A simple Sye is can run into a nice chunk of money quickly.

To conclude:

65 for j-yard shaft with new u-joints

Or well over 200 plus a day or so under your rig not including whatyou do for a driveshaft.. new 250.. used rebuilt and shortened 125.

Actually I don't mind paying for an sye, tools aren't a problem either unless were going to get into some fab work. I was figuring I'd dish out about 100 for this anyways, an sye just gives me the option to go higher later with less cost if I want.

Still thinking about this one though. I'll let you guys know which way I'm gonna go after I find out more.

Trailrider is there any specific way to do this or is it pretty much just get your sye in stalled and bolt on or is there an adapter just trying to get an idea. Might have snagged a deal on an sye
