Looking for some help
I'm just about done getting my lift on my 98 XJ and am planning on getting a set of 4.88 gears soon. I know I won't be able to install them myself without screwing them up, anyone wanna help me out? I live in Stafford, VA, I'll bring the Jeep to you and I don't mind driving a long way.

I hate to bust your bubble.. most if not all ppl who know how to do gears won't do them for free. A lot of time goes into learning how to do them, plus the tools to do them right.

Yep, I don't set up axles for others anymore, just myself, not worth the extra money then have to pay for liability insurance.
When I was setting gears for others I charged $200 per diff and I would only set them up with the differential out of the vehicle and on my work bench. I won't even bother with one in a vehicle. |
I dont do it for several reasons. One.. I barely have time to work on my vehicle, and if I am working on yours one of my projects is getting neglected.
Then there is the liability factor.. I do carry an umbrella policy on myself.. but not sure if it would cover that. Lastly no one wants to pay what I feel my time is worth.. Where I work ( a paper mill) I can work as much Overtime as I want. So my off time is worth at least as much as I can make at work... and I guarantee you I work harder in my yard then I do at work. |
I didn't expect anyone to do it for free, but I'm sure any shop around me would charge an insane amount to do it.

Expect 200 per axle as a minimum.
