I hate to say it but being in the natural resource management field, you know how much money it takes to renourish a beach after a hurricane? Sandy alone cost the town a ton of money. And also pretty much all funding for the beach from the town or anyone else has stopped so that 20 bucks you dont want to pay actually goes towards a lot. I know everyone that was here when it was free misses the old days but if it was the old days in a few hurricanes or noreasters the beach would prob be inaccessible. Plus they barely are getting enough money to keep up with renourishing costs hence the reason all season passes are 100 now.
Also, you know how much trash and waste all the people that dont give a crap about the beach create? On 4th of july weekend alone it equals up to the tons in the amounts of trash that is collected.
So dont look at it as slipping money in a families pocket. Because theyre opening their backyards to a ton of strangers to come and disrespect it. But look at it as a way to keep the area that youve had so many good memories on open and protected.

last time i went, i waited in line for over an hour and a half because of people taking their damn full size suburbans with street tires and their Subaru's with street tires and their massive diesels with nitto's out there and getting stuck 5 feet in. it was one right behind the other. the entrance guy asked me several times if I would assist in pulling people out with my jeep. hell no, they can sit there and be embarrassed for being stupid for all i care, im not about to break something on my jeep because they were dumb. they friggin deserved it.
thank God for my secret place to drive on the beach, if they ever make camping legal here, i'll never return to carolina beach unless it's a special occasion. i just hope the few people that ride here can keep their mouths shut. because if word gets out, it'll be the next freeman park.

i understand completely. i hate that so many people go there and mess stuff up though. trash the place and act stupid, how hard is it to just drive on the beach, park, fish and camp without getting stupidly drunk and trashing the place?...
