Damaged XJ in Richmond/Central Virginia
Hey everyone! I was driving a 99 XJ up until yesterday when my sister got into an accident while driving it. The airbags deployed in it, which is the biggest cost for fixing it. It's going to be too much for me to try and fix up so I'm hoping to sell it for at least some money. The grill, radiator and bumper suffered the most damage. The grill was ripped off after the accident happened to get the hood open to cut the battery cables. The hood itself doesn't appear to have any damage. The rest of the jeep is in good condition. Like I said, the airbags deployed so that will be the priciest expense. There's damage to the dash from the airbags, but it didn't appear to be too much.
It's a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Limited, with tan interior and leather seats. It has the original radio with AM/FM, CD, and cassette. The heat works great, the A/C was working pretty well, though I think some of those parts were damaged in the accident. It is an automatic, 6 cylinder with cruise control. It has the NP 242 Selec Trac Transfer Case, which I think is really nice. It is a dark red, it has alloy wheels. It has about 185,000 miles on it, but it was working pretty great up until the accident. The tires are less than 2 years old. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles and it was well taken care of. It has power steering, power locks, power windows, and power mirrors. It has a full size spare. Nothing after-market has been done on it, no lift kit or anything like that. The inside of the car shows general wear and tear, the driver's seat leather was cracked in a few places, but overall, it's in good condition.
I'm looking to get rid of it as soon as possible! You must tow it at your expense. I'm looking to get some money for it. My only other option at this point is to just let the body shop it's at take it, which won't bring me any money so make an offer! It's at a body shop in Mechanicsville now. I have a few pictures of the damage, as well as of the jeep before the accident. I'm really not trying to part it out either so please don't ask.

I've already one place like that and left a message to see how much they can offer me for it, but if I don't hear back from them this afternoon, I probably will let it go to the body shop since I have to pay to store it there, and it's not worth having it towed to my house just to wait to see if someone can offer me some money for it.

I'd try to part it out but I just don't have the time or means to have it sit at the house for awhile. And the accident was my sister's fault and my insurance won't cover the damage to my car since she's at fault unfortunately.

So as a general rule...Never let a body shop have your jeep carcass for free. I called Dorn's today, and they wanted 850 for it. Highway robbery! Especially when they got it for free. Say what you will about parting the jeep out, but 2500 in your pocket is better than 0.
