Tube Bender in Maryland

Anyone in the Cecil/Harford county area have access to a tube bender? Can't justify spending $2-300 for making 2 bends.

most local race shops/ exhaust shops will have them

I didn't even think of that.... have to see if they can bend 1 1/2" DOM....

before you go asking, make sure you have your wall width. 1 1/2" isn't bad, depending on the wall size, because they use it a lot for exhaust pipe... which is very thin in comparison. Just a heads up.

tubing bender is a tubing bender..... if they cant bend a 1 1/2 inch pipe they might as well burn the place down

I'm looking at bending .125, I know it uses a different mandrel size....

Thats not so... Most exhast shops bend tube that is thin wall. Not sure how thick OP needs bent, but .120 is twice as thick as exhaust tubing. Also pretty sure he doesnt want it to crimp like exhaust tubing does.

I checked this morning, an exhaust shop can bend it, but it is not going to be a clean bend. Checked with a local fab shop and they can do it but are so swamped with work that they don't want to mess with it. I found someone who sells what I am looking for, guess I'll have to go that route...

Moved to the North Atlantic section. This does not belong in Fab.

Sounds like the common problem with Maryland....everyone thinks they should be earning $100+ per hour for anything.

I've wanted to do stuff like this, but price is just crazy high. I just don't get why folks here feel they need to be paid two, three and four times as much as people in other areas.

The $2-300 I was referring to was for buying a bender and die(s).

..ah whoops. OK. Well, the points still stands...Maryland (esp. around DC) people still ask for way too much. Buddy asked me to help him with O2 sensors on his Camry since the local shop (Mr. Tire) wanted $124 and two hours to install two (of three) of them. They also wanted $300 per sensor. He (with the smart phone) found ones across the street for $360 for the set, and I told him hit me up on a dry day, it'll take about an hour, just buy me lunch (or bring a pizza...hadn't had one in while).

It's stuff like this that is just crazy that there isn't a place that isn't willing to help. I know some folks deserve to get paid (cause of decades of experience and/or tens of thousands spend on a degree or other expanded education. But plumbers charging as much as lawyers (who are already overpaid) is just stupid.

OK, enough ranting, if I do find anything like this, I will share it. As mentioned, would love to do some custom work myself. I even should practice my welding skills (it's been a few years). Certainly could trade some favors.
