Does anybody know where the cheapest place to buy a cat is? I chopped off my old muffler but a piece of it got left in the outlet of the cat and now I can't get any sort of reasonable exhaust adapter in there without going over the big outer portion of the outlet pipe, which would be about a 3" piece? (which I already tried, and an exhaust shop already tried, it leaks). Think I'm just going to put a new cat on

If you've got an A&A auto near ya i'd go there and buy a magnaflow universal cat. pretty cheap and easy. They should have it in stock or they could get it by tomorrow for ya. I know we stock a ton of them at all times

I just bought a walker cat today for $115 at autozone. I tried putting it on but I couldn't get the o2 sensor off the cat and gave up cause I have to be in work in 30 minutes

I actually work at a Pep Boys in town here, but I'm thinking online may still be cheaper even with my discount....I actually found a basic one for 37.50 off of Mudfrogs vendor listing on here...www.performance-curve.com

You have an o2 sensor on your cat too? The guy at performance curve assured me that I shouldn't have one, but I'm almost certain that I do. I didn't have the car here to look at though

Yea its right after the cat before the muffler. I went to pepboys and bought a magnaflow universal cat and it didn't come with the hole for the o2 sensor. I took it back and they told me I'd have to buy a kit and weld it on so I just returned it and went to autozone and got a walker cat and it came with the threads for the o2 sensor. I have a 99 xj sport

The o2 sensor deal depends on the year. Either '95 or '96 they added the one after the cat. I'm pretty sure it was '96 when they switched to obd2.

YES, 1996 when it switched to OBDII, but its not ALL 1996's either... the switch to OBDII was a mid year change that was effective for the 1997 run.... I have found that not all 1996 cherokee's have the second O2, or even the same electrical setup either....

2 of the 4 wires on my o2 closest to the muffler rubbed through an my jeep runs no different, no cel either

bighouts5591 02-01-2012 07:33 PM

I'm almost certain my 95 has one right on the front of the cat near the inlet.....I'll check it out tomorrow

You're probably thinking on the one on the down pipe. I don't know of any vehicles that have them right before the cat. They put one on the down pipe to measure how efficiently the motor is running and adjustment accordingly and one after the cat to make sure the cat is in proper working order.

I disconnected my o2 sensor so I didn't break it off while working on the Jeep. I forgot to reconnect it and drove for a week like that... didn't change a freakin thing lol.

So what you're saying is.....if my cat had a hole punched right through it.....that wouldn't be an issue? >:-D
