Default command trac to selec trac

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place, but I am looking for local help as I am in Nassau County Long Island.I have been a long time jeep owner. I just recently had to lay my 89 cherokee pioneer to rest after the engine cracked at 185k.

I recently purchased a 98 cherokee sport, with 85k, very clean. I however HATE the command trac 4x4 and long for the full time 4x4 that selec trac gives me. I have seen guys online do a mod where the swap the 231 transfer case for the 242 and replaced the shift panel and boom instant full time 4wd.

I hate the command track and am fearful in winter of my girlfriend borrowing the jeep and not doing the proper engage and disengage of the 4wd.

I am not a guy who can handle a job like this with jack stands, dismantling the drive shaft and such. Is there any shop in the LI/Queens/NYC area that is capable of doing this kind of work.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Pretty much any decent mechanic shop should be able to do the work for since its a direct bolt in. You will need a new shifter bezel from an XJ with full time 4wd, and if you're worried about user error, you will also need to have the 4wd indicator switch either rewired or replaced with one from a full time 4wd Cherokee. FYI, if you plan on running a tall lift you may want to reconsider as no slip yoke eliminator kit is made for the 242.
