What time are you planning on getting there is the only thing? I am 3 hours out so I would like to get there asap but not sure that I will make it there by 8, I was planning 9 but if you are determined to get on the trails when they open I will plan for 8am. We can either just meet there in the lot and kind of scan for each others jeeps or we could meet at a gas station near by as I will definitely be refueling before wheeling. Also I will have a set walkies

Hey guys.
Meetup Saturday is at Rausch at 8:30. Hitting the trails by 9:30. Look for all the XJs and the registration table. They'll organize groups according to skill/jeep setup.
We can try to all get in the same group - I'm good through black trails but i'm ok with greens/blues for the day. Stock can get through most blue trails - i've been enough times to know the trails fairly well
Most of the NAXJA group is camping at Twin Brook - I'm in Yurt "YT1". I'll be up Friday afternoon with the wife, and i'll post my gate code to get in the entrance. The catered dinner is Saturday evening at the Clam Bake Pavillion ($15).
My cell is 484.639.4910. Name is Justin if you've never met me.
Or you can just come find us:

Rare XJ Overheating Episode (Long, wordy post warning)
So the relatively unheard of 4.0 percolation problem has occurred in my boy's '98 Limited. (Sarcasm light is on.) Colin was driving back from OC to Salisbury and the "check gauges" light finally got his attention right before she blew. He had it towed into a garage in Salisbury (Peninsula Auto) and here's the story.
Rad cap was essentially welded the filler neck. Dexgoop had entirely plugged the hose to the recovery tank. Mechanic described the contents of the radiator as a combination of rust, dexcool and neglect. (Funny guy, really.)
I had him run a dry compression test and the numbers were about 150 average with cylinder #4 at 176. I OK'd a new radiator, water pump and thermostat and a block flush. After those repairs they did a pressure test of the cooling system and a hydrocarbon test which they said were ok. The mechanic said that he still thought that since it was a Jeep and that it had overheated pretty bad that I would still be most likely looking at a head gasket at minimum and would probably want to replace the head. He also noted that it was missing and idling rough.
I drove it home last weekend from Salisbury to Annapolis and the temp was at 210-ish at highway speeds but climbed toward the red at the three stoplights that were too stale for me to run. When I blasted the heat, the surge in temps slowed. Idle at the lights was beaucoup lumpy at about 700 rpm. The check gauges indicator came on twice during the rescue mission.
Once home and after my feet cooled off, I pulled a P0301 code and let it idle for about 10 minutes. Temps reached 210 after about 7 minutes and I got a pretty good cloud of white vapor out of the tailpipe. I shut it down and poured myself a Woodford Reserve.
I want to keep this truck and I am close to ordering a new Clearwater head but before I do that I want to throw this out there. Does it make sense to throw a new head in it with 200K on the bottom end? Should I pick up a used 0630 casting instead? BTW, the truck has 195K on the clock and before Colin took it to college, it had regular documented maintenance done through 170K.

What does the oil look like? Milky?
Any moisture under the oil cap?
The heads on 98s can still crack and have blown head gaskets. At minimum you'll want to have the head magnafluxed and checked for warping if the gasket is actually blown.
