Help with a Heater Core??

Hey All. New to the forum and the Cherokee world. Purchased a slightly ignored 2001 60th Anniversary edition in the spring with 85,000 miles and have been getting her back in shape ever since. Had her in the shop this week and it turns out the heater core is all clogged up (no leaks / cracks). The shop is quite knowledgable and they think it is so blocked it will need to be replaced (asking over 1000 for the job). Does anyone have experience flushing these things out when they are that clogged. I will suck it up and have it replaced if necessary but if anyone thinks it can be flushed (and can help me do it) I would be happy to compensate you for saving me that job! Thanks in advance! - Andrew

Try some CLR in the radiator and let it idle of about 20mins and pray. And a $1000 is not out of the question that is a horrible job to do I am going to have to bit the bullet and pull my dash and replay mine ;-(

Thanks Ken! Anyone around the MA area have experience flushing the heater core? Little unsure about doing it myself.. although I guess worst case scenario I have to replace it which is where I am at now haha.
