Hey guyz-

Looks like a great forum, happy to find you all.

I have a 1994 GC LTD with a straight 4cyl. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, lol, all I know is my 16yo kid is NUTZ for mudding and wants to build this thing for a play-toy.

I am a pro commercial electrician and expert mechanic, welder, fab guy, etc. but this will be my first off-road build, so I need a little love. I realize this thing is prolly just a glorified grocery-getter, but we should be able to get it to a reasonable level of fun before we tackle something higher-end. I mean, it's paid for, lol ;-)

Any tips and thread links I should look at? Also, anyone around the south Nashville area that wants to hook up and trail with us sometime?

Hit me back here!!

Cheers,

Glenn

Welcome from SE TN. You may want to do some checking because I doubt you have a 4 banger in a Grand Cherokee. Maybe a 4L inline 6 and if so it's a great power plant that's been known to go 300k.

Arrrgh. Yeah, I meant 4L Inline 6, doh. I think it's the 4.7L and it's only at 120k and running strong, so I think it's worthy of a project still.

Anyone have some quick links to recent builds here? I'm turning up some good searches, but I'm sure I'm missing some too...

Thanks in advance!

Only two engine options in 94, 4L inline 6 and 5.2 V8. I've built a couple of ZJs and if my cousin comes up with the cash I'll be building another. They do great off road. The AWD t-cases don't tend to last long and the V8s have a CV front drive shaft that doesn't like lifts but other than that they're great vehicles. And those issues are pretty easy to fix. Bigger wheel wells than XJs too so easier to fit larger tires.

My name is Stephen Tew just call me Stew. Just bought a 1993 Cherokee XJ as a project. Drive a Wrangler daily, but wanted a real off road vehicle. I live in Spring Hill, TN just south of Nashville.
