304.. It holds up just as well as 316. I am using a wet cell design so keeping the positives free of oxidation (the terminal connections) isn't easy. I haven't been able to find stainless steel terminals for wiring yet. That would make thinks easier. I don't use neutrals, and I also employ magnets.

I wanted to use a neon transformer for 2000 volts at low current (it regulates current to a max of 30 milliamps), but couldn't get it to work. I need someone with more electrical skills than me to show me what I did wrong with the bridge rectifiers. I used the same setup with 120 VAC, only these diodes are good for 30kV.

Anyways, now that I got the jeep running and I have a Mechman 240 amp alternator on it, a power inverter for 110 VAC is back on the plate.

Looks like that word is a "red word". lol You have to think Marine or Aircraft Electrical when looking for stainless cable lugs.

I found stainless marine grade wiring, but they didn't have stainless terminals. They were aluminum, and we can't use that because electrolysis actually breaks it down into hydrogen.

I guess aircraft is my new word search tool. Lugs have a very large gauge sound to them. I'm using relatively small gauges inside the cell. Any good ideas on places that might carry them?

Let me look around for you. I have sources on a sticky note here somewhere. What sizes are you looking for? The lugs would be for bigger cables like the external connections. But off shore industrial is another search criteria.

What do you say we move this to another thread?

Afternoon guys. Went to a Jeep event last night. It feels great when the hosting club says "It's great to see some older rigs and not just JKs for once." They even took a few pics and posted this one.

Built rigs look so much better and uniquer'er than all the new stuff. There's truck companies around here that seem to specialize in selling used already modified trucks. There should be an aftermarket modified Jeep dealer. That would be a great small business startup. I toyed with that idea years ago when I had the finances. I had too many ideas and not enough conviction in anyone to know what to do.

I thought about also moving out west into the mountains and providing a log cabin vacation rental setup complete with off-road 4x4. Air BnB seems to be proving that a rental model like that is highly sought after. Most people I think would like to get away and also be able to have the use of something that takes too much time and money to invest in. One day when my entrepreneurials get taking off I will build that log cabin and XJ myself.

The MJ is only on 3.5" w/31's for now. Got my 285's in the other day, just need to mount them to the rims. Then it's 6.5" lift, 4x4 swap and after that, Stage II can begin on the 3.0L stroker. Right now, the engine makes 187hp/210tq with only 4cyls and just a TBI unit. I'm going to be forced to take an early retirement from the Army and disability. So early next year, going to look for a small, secluded home somewhere.

I think you are on the right track with your 285's. The one thing I would give up a little ride to would be more plies, and even most of that can be compensated for with air pressure but the plies are still there.

Did you get load range D or E?

E range HD. I use the MJ for towing and work as well. I want a HD style tire.

They will serve you well in all conditions. I am elated to see some common sense applied when it comes to tire size, rating and practical application. I still can't figure out why everyone is hell bent on exposing their sidewalls to more danger. The most reliable off road tire size I have seen yet in all conditions is the 285/75/R/16 and in a closed shoulder commercial highway tread.

They're actually 16" military tires, I bought through the Unit.

Those are great looking tires! Not everyone can get a hold of those! I used to go pick up tires at the military auctions.

But I was referring more to the size more than tread design. The less you expose the sidewall to "out of the track" the better off you are. The wider the tire is the more rocks and sticks you are going to hit with your sidewalls.

I'm also on the market of going to 16s as well. Been doing alot of research. And it seems prices for 15 in sized tires. And riseing in prices, and 16s are going down. 16s are becoming the new 15s. I can get a bigger tires in a 16s for the same cost as a smaller one in a 15. And yes Lee. I'm still waiting to see if you can hook me up with a set of mtrs before you get out lol
