It's about a 45 minute ride for me and I live in simpsonville. I had a ton of fun last time I went, but haven't been able to get a group together to go with again.
I would be game if I have a little notice and dont have to work. I do most of my wheeling in the mountains around my house. Most of the good wheeling around Greenville has been shut down by carpet baggers and developers but I know a few spots where one can still have some fun without getting in trouble.

Glassy Mountain, Terry Creek, Deer Stalk and a lot of the stuff around the horse pasture has been shut down by the Cliffs. If you are ever out exploring up around Travelers Rest look up Red Turner Road on google maps. Its some good riding with hill climbs, mud holes, mud flats and some good trails where one can flex it out. Pinnacle Mountain Road just across the state line also has some nice riding that is not real rough. Franks mountain on the SC side also has some real nice trial riding so long as you dont mind scratching you paint on limbs.

A lot of the old wheeling spots around here that used to be open year round are now only opened during the hunting season. Im not that old but I can remember wheeling to the top of Glassy Mountain. At one time one could start at bald rock on ceasars head and ride all the way the hwy 25 without hitting asphalt.

Ill plan on going and will so long as I dont end up being forced to work by my slave driver boss. I dont think it will be an issue.

How rough is it. My rig is still a work in progress. Sitting on 4.5 inch zone lift and 32x11.50 mud tires and runs strong. Just wondering if its one of those places that I need to pack a spare axle shaft and a 3 day supply of water.

I'm on 3" lift and 31s and I didn't break anything. There are trails I know I can't do so I don't even try. You can break stuff there if you try.

The park is small. It's only 88 acres. A 3 day water supply won't be necessary.

There's trails from mild to wild. You can ride around the main trails in a stock Jeep and watch or you can roll your Jeep backwards off a huge hill. Totally up to you what you want to try.

Sounds about how I like it. Average difficulty with some rough stuff in case I get to feeling ballsy that day. I used to destroy trucks off road in my younger days. Now if it gets real rough I just use the 4wheeler. We will plan on going and hope I dont end up drawing the on call at work that weekend. How much does it cost to get in.

Since you are in the Greenville area let me know if you are ever looking for some local places to wheel. They are getting fewer and further between but we still have some decent wheeling up here in the northern part of the county that dont cost a dime.

It's $25 per day for driver.

The only wheeling I fool with is usually large obstacle rock crawling stuff. There's none of that in the Upstate for free that I've ever seen.

There's a couple places over in GA that are legal (privately owned) and free.

there is, but I haven't seen all of it. Plus I'm not 100% sure what I can and can't do so I don't want to break it.

I know what you mean. I moved a little ways north of Chattanooga TN for a few years and they have all kinds of rock crawling and off roading. Its nothing to be on the trail and have a group of 100k dollar rock buggies go by you.

I aint gonna claim that its anywhere near as much as up there but there are actually a few places like that left here as well. I spend all my time in greenville but actually live in Tuxedo now and I know of 3 places within 15 minutes of me at which one can find some decent technical rock and trail riding. The hush hole, chinquapin rd, franks mountain. There are still a few places around like that but most of them are either to rough for a street legal rig or of questionable legality. I am kind of lucky because I work for duke energy and have access to a lot of power line riding that most do not. It aint tellico but it scratches the itch when I get it

what does duke or any power company for that matter do if you're wheeling on power lines?

You're trespassing and are subject to fines/jail time.

I'm under the impression that the Hush Hole is privately owned and gated...

I've never heard of the other two.

My family has property up in TR. We're on the opposite side of the Mtn from Camp Old Indian. Our property butts up to theirs.
