replacing oil pump
 
help replacing yj oil pump.the new one has a cotter key in one of the holes?not a mech any suggs on the procedure?also sats to prime pump after pumps in and oil pan is back on,cont have oil priming tool?wass up?

ya its a dirty job but you are gonna have to lift the jeep on jack stands so that the front suspension will be able to hang freely. drain your oil, I would recommend over night so you don't get dripped on, but its inevitable. The oil pan has a bolt pattern that you must remember, the amount of time you take preping for this the better like draw a diagram or punch holes in a box with the oil pan bolts diagram would be best. once the oil pan is off the oil pump is held up by two bolts and replace.

You don't need to wait til it's installed to prime the oil pump.. just fill it with oil before you bolt it on. You can fill it with vaseline if you like, it won't leak out like oil will. If you decide to prime it afterwards, you'll need to remove the distributor and hook a long screwdriver type shaft to a drill and spin the pump with that. I'd use the vaseline. :)
