Welcome to our little slice of insanity. With that said, we need to know what engine and drivetrains you have in your Jeep so we may either diagnose it or suggest a course of action. Thank you and enjoy CF.

The motor is the inline 4.0 and not 4x4 has 127000 miles on it the seller told me about a sensor that was bad and it could of not let it go in reverse when u try to put it in reverse the motor just revs up like its in neutral but all other gears work any info would be great

He tild me to check the speed sensor that might not let it go in reverse as I daid I really dont know just trying to find stuff out as I go

Ok I think he's trying to tell you the (tps) throttle position sensor but that doesn't have to do with anything with your transmission going into reverse...
If you can check the linkage to the shifter to the transmission and see if your getting reverse...if not, then it's time to either fix that transmission or get a new one....

I read this n this is if u jave a 1996 n using a 1998-2001 AW4s require more work. All the transfer case input gear info from 1990.5-1997 applies, on top of that, the sensors have changed! You can either build the circuit given*here by lawsoncl*or swap the transmission tailhousing, sensor drive rotor, and output speed sensor as shown*here by Frank Zto make this work. You may need to add custom wiring for the transfer case indicator lamps (see above.)If you have a 1997 XJ:

Ok, not trying to be rude or a jerk but please spell out your words.
Secondly, if you were trying to share links, they did not work. We have a Test section here where you can experiment with posting links until you figure it out.

Sorry for not spelling the words out I was just sharing something another member gave me for using a 2001 transmission with a 1996 jeep

88whitecomanche 04-23-2015 10:19 AM

Ok but that's for a 4wd transmission...transfer case is what connects to the back of the transmission to distribute the power to front and rear wheels while in 4wd..,
I see what link you were trying to apply but just reading gave me a headache....
Maybe someone else can chime in...
