Georgia locals

Looking for some help on the trails near Canton Georgia.

New guy here, I normally hang out at the Earlycj5 forums since I have a '74 CJ5.

I've wheeled a few times at Lower Sweetwater and it's a pretty cool trail. The problem is that it also looks like a dump. Lot's of folks dumping garbage, and more than a few tires litter the trail almost down to the lake.

I thought it might be a good idea to try and get a trail clean up for early 2013. Thinking about contacting property owners and hunting club there to get them involved too. I'm really afraid that someone is going to get sick and tired of all the garbage and put a cattle gate at the start of that trail and we'll be all done at Sweetwater.

If you local guys think this is a good thing and want to dedicate a day in the spring for this then let me know in the thread here. This is only in the planning stages, but I really believe we could do some good here.

Thanks,

Norm

There is a thread just for georgia members. Im from Fort Oglethorpe (near chattanooga tennessee). We have a few decent places (some of which are being threatened by builders)...Aetna, Big Fork, Lewis Chapel, Prentice Cooper..further north there are some decent spots. Also we are gonna be having a SouthEast Get together sometime.. (Hopefully in november). Go to the SE section and look around! BTW Welcome to the Forum!

I've grown up going to Sweetwater with my brother. Been going for nearly 15 years. It's ALWAYS looked like a dump and someone cleans it up and it looks nice for about 2 weeks and then it gets destroyed again. It sucks, but that's the cycle. Going up there this weekend with my brother if you plan on being out there

That's really too bad that people treat it like that. Since I posted this I had an email conversation with the president of the hunt club there. He is very clear that if he catches anyone there that he'll call the Sheriff, says the whole thing is private property including the road.

In the mean time I called the Corp of Engineers and DNR. Both said to not go past any areas where the trees are marked in red paint (two stripes I think) because that is their property and they WILL issue tickets since motorized vehicles are not allowed.

In a nutshell, I guess I'm not going to try and volunteer to help clean up...and...be careful out there, especially if you get near the lake. This all sounds too familiar around Georgia, the places that are left to go wheeling are being threatened.

Thanks for the welcome, I'll look up the local Georgia gang too.

Good to know info here. Might have to post this in the GA thread later. So true that our hobby is threatened by irrisponsible idiots everyday.
