Hey guys. I'm moving down near Knoxville in June and wanted to see what the scene is like. I know there's a good offroad Park right outside Knoxville. Is there anything else nearby?

Also, are there any issues with lifted Jeeps? Need fenders? Can I roll doorless in the XJ with no issues? And my rear passenger, cargo, and hatch are tinted, do they care?

Cheers

You're probably thinking of Windrock. It's about an hour drive depending on what part of Knox you're living in. There are some places around the East Town area where you can trail ride but just be careful as you're not really suppose to be there. Royal Blue is close and there are some trails around Norris Dam.

Knoxville is the most lax place regarding modified vehicles. No inspection, no emissions, no mudflap rules, no fender rules and no one is going give you anything but thumbs ups for having no doors.

Depending on tint however, you might have a few questions from the 5-0.

Sounds good! I'm all about only Wheeling where I belong, so if it's not a park I won't go. Glad to hear about the no inspection and all that. And as far as the tint goes, even though my front Windows aren't tinted, I roll down a 4 of my windows so maybe that'd help? I'll be sure to double check once I move.

Are there any Wheeling groups in the area?

Tint isn't an issues until u get into 15% or darker on the front doors or have a large front strip.

I been a member of KnoxOffroad for the past 3 yrs or so. You will not have any problems finding people to ride with.

I also drive 30 min down the interstate with no doors or back bumper (got a hitch tho) and get passed by cops all the time. In this beat up thing...

This was taken on i40 last spring. Beautiful weather around here for jeeps

Yep. You're going to have a more difficult time finding a 4wd ax-15 tranny in an XJ compared to an AW4.

You should easily be able to find a 4wd ax-15 from a Wrangler however. You're on KCE, aright you?

And the ax-15 in the wrangler is the same as the one in the xj right? Yeah I'm on KCE, how difficult would it be to switch over to auto? Would I need a new clutch and stuff? What about electrical?

If u decide to go w an aw4, that guy on KnoxOffroad that has the axles and stuff has that aw4 with the harness, tcm and what not. He has all this stuff for former plans on an aw4 swap so he should have most or all of what u need

Alright, so just curious.. In the long run, would it cost more to do the swap?

Only because you'll need a TCM if you go to AW4. You're going to need a 4wd tranny anyways as the tail cone sections are different between the 2wd and 4WD AX-15s. The real reason to go to an AW4 is availability.

Oh, and since your axle gearing as of now is 3.07s, you'll probably want to grab 3.55 geared axles as an AW4 with 3.07s would be a DOG.
