Default Which Toyota (Petrol) Engine can fit best in Grand Cherokee 1998 model?

Any suggestion based on experience done earlier?

The used engines available cannot be returned if not worked out well.

Experimenting can be expensive, so why not ask the experts!

I don't think I would put a Toyota engine in a Jeep. Firstly, your Jeep will spontaneously burst into flames.

Just kidding (kind of...), I have actually seen a few Toyota 2JZ and 1JZ swaps into Cherokees (one Grand Cherokee called the "Jeepra"). Same inline-6 configuration - and huge aftermarket support.

The 22RE is junk, makes no power and a V6 is going to take up alot of space but would still probably fit, and still doesn't make much power.

A Mercedes OM617 (inline 5-cylinder), or a VW TDI motor would both be more suited to a Jeep. Beyond that, a GM LS motor is probably the best bang for your buck, and can be built/detuned for reliability

Best of luck

Aaaah...In fact I live in Pakistan, we have a used engines market here but mostly the motors available are Japanese. Predominantly Toyota, Honda and Nissan.
I am pretty much sure that I would not be able to find a Merc or a VW motor. Import option will rip my bank account off.
Just wondering if 3SGE Beams Blacktop dual vvti can be the answer.
Still stuck....

Ah Ha! So emissions mean nothing, right! I'd go with simplicity and ease of repair for sure. Anything with fuel injection is going to require electronics other than the jeep's.

98 ZJ, right? Probably 4wd automatic. That's a 42re transmission and it's electronically shifted. Your best bet would be a complete Toyota powertrain, that is engine, transmission, and transfer case complete with it's own electronics. IDK enough about Toyota to know if the t/case has the front output shaft on the driver's side or not.

Sounds like an interesting project for sure! Keep us informed.

I would look at toyota v8s or maybe a v12 if you can find it.A grand cherokee is heavy you want the max torque to move it.If you go nissan if a rb will fit build a rb30det.But like said finding a trans that will work will be the hardest part.
