Default ******* MI trail ride, tips needed

I would like to go light trail riding in my Comanche up to ******* MI to see the fall colors. I haven't ever been up there before so any tips would be excellent. The trip would be my wife and I driving up for the day, it's a 2 hour drive each way. I have a few concerns that I would like to run by you. First the truck is mostly stock, 3" lift riding on puny 235/70/16's, stock Dana 30/35 axles. I plan on bringing a tool kit and a fire extinguisher.

Now that hardcore will scoff at this plan, remember I want to light trail ride. Think of an open field of grass. I don't want to scratch my truck up and I know it won't be capable without lockers or better axles in general. What would you do or bring with you? Yeah a friend would be helpful if we get stuck or break down, but I don't know anyone that would go off hand. I don't have a winch so that's out for now. I want to buy a CB radio because I don't know if our cell phones will be reliable. I don't even know if anyone uses them anymore with the cell phones crushing them. Lots of questions, I would like to see if this is something to be a hobby in the future and then build this truck or another to play around with.

From *******, take either Old 27 or I75 up to Vanderbilt. Drive west through the town and keep driving, for about 20 minutes or so. You'll see a sign for Pickerel Lake, and a little further after that, a sign for Elk Viewing Area. There are a ton of trails branching off of these roads. Probably my favorite trails. I know this is after your trip, but maybe it will open up these trails to some other people too.
